Store sign.

I'm stuck on the design of my sign over my strip mall unit. I'm defaulting towards just the generic style most go for, The front lit acrylic lettering. But, I kind of wanted to see if anyone has done anything different and how they feel it's visibility and it's ability pull eyes(just not be over looked because it's obscure in one sense or the other). https://www.signaturel.co.uk/image/cache/catalog/signaturel/sgn043-1-0-800x600.jpg There are larger examples. The parking lot is quite bright at night. the unit is probably 70meters or 150 feet from the road. I just want to get some opinions on the sign and such as it can set the tone of the business.

What’s something you wished you learned before starting your business?

Hi everyone! Newbie here with big dreams of owning a business someday. I’m planning on taking small business classes to get me started. Hopefully I’ll learn a lot. I hope to learn as much from this community too. So are there things you guys wished you learned prior to opening your business? Things that could avoid issues, save money, limit conflicts or anything useful despite how minuscule it is?

Small business operating at a loss, how to not be considered a hobby by te IRS

Hey everyone, I have a small business that I started up in 2019. It has been operating at a loss, but we have other sources of income and we have been able to sustain the losses so far. It does about 400k in revenue, has employees, pays employee benefits, has a mortgage associated with the business, etc. It's clearly set up to make a profit at some point. Just in the building phase and having issues with retaining employees this year, lowering volume. 2021 was year three showing a loss. First year was start up, 2020 was covid year and almost broke even. I know you have to be profitable 3 out of 5 years to be considered a business by default according to the IRS. I'm worried about being considered a hobby, which it is not. I know IRS Form 5213 exists, but am not sure if or when to submit that. Thank you for any thoughts here.

How do I find small business owners looking to retire?

I've got a lot to learn, but ready to jump in. We've got up to $300k deposit, access to double that if I can present a good business case. I've got the relevant experience to run operations but will need to learn about the accounting end of things - so I'll be relying on bookkeepers. I'm interested to buy one of these businesses all over the news - people looking to retire but not wanting to dissolve their business / employees. Obviously I need to learn about valuation etc, but mostly - how do I find these opportunities?

Signatures on iPad

I have my own small business doing structured cabling, audio visual, Network Optimization, and a few other things. I am fully insured. However, to mitigate any risk that could be involved since there are times where I drill or cut holes in walls, I want the client to sign a job satisfactory form. Basically saying I did this job and they are happy with it. So if someone ever did come back and say I screwed something up, I can say, well, you said you were happy with it. I know there are people that could do this regardless but its just another level of protection I am doing. I use fresh books for my bookkeeping. It allows signatures for estimates, but not Invoices. Anyone have any ideas what I could do for this? What do y'all do?

How do you find the motivation to take product pictures?

I re-sell used clothing online and it’s the worst part of the business to have to take individual pictures of the items. It turns into a huge mess once I’m done. I hate it.

PO box business

I have the opportunity to buy a mom and pop post office box business. It does not having a relationship with FedEx, UPS, DHL, Etc. Can these businesses be money makers or are you just buying yourself a job? What is the main revenue driver and what are the additional revenue streams that can be added? Any help would be appreciated.

new LLC rookie question

Hey all, I started a small service company with my partner, it’s only the 2 of us at the moment. We have our LLC and the EIN. My question is, how can we generate tax documents at the end for the 2 of us? Clients are going to pay directly to the LLC business account and from there we plan to pay ourselves after taking into account expenses, emergency fund, etc

Funding and lines of credit?

Hi all, I'm interested in ways to fund my business. I have a pretty good credit score (low 700s across all 3 reporting agencies) and a friend of mine recommended seek capital, which appears to just get you signed up for a group of unsecured business credit cards. They tell me it's attractive because my LLC will protect my credit score if things don't really pick up, acting as kind of a safety net in case I fail in this outing and have to bankrupt. I'm not opposed to going this route, but I was wondering what other funding sources are out there? Where else should I turn for capital assistance to get myself started? I'm very keen to open up shop, but I do not want to risk my personal credit in this endeavor. I'm starting a Jewelry business in New York, online starting but looking to get into a storefront. Main expenses to start would be marketing, staffing, and raw materials + metal casting. Thinking 40-70k startup!

Need advice on getting users to my platform

I'm building a social platform for small content creators (like youtubers, tiktokers, podcasters, insta creators). My target audience is nano or micro influencers. Creators with less than 10,000 subscribers or followers. How do i reach out to them or how do i get my platform in front of them to check it out? Our platform actually solves a problem and can help creators grow. But the problem is what we have zero visibility. I have tried posting on a few relevant subreddits and got around 20-30 sign ups but my posts are always quickly removed for self promotion. Should i run ads? Should i do paid promotions? Pay influencers? I want to onboard atleast 2000 creators before i can start looking for funding, or else i am f*cked. Please suggest some practical ways to reach my goal.
