Scam or not?
A customer found my home renovation business online and wants his home painted. It’s a double wide trailer. A low value job and frankly I didn’t want to take it so I bid a price that would pay what I need to make it worthwhile. (Easily 3x what a painting contractor would charge). After some back and forth customer agrees. (Customer barely speaks English and we can only communicate via text). Customer says they are sending me a “certified check” for half up front and it will include more to pay some movers who are going to deliver the painting materials. I’m concerned it’s a bad check scam but it seems too intricate to be one? What do you guys think? Are there steps I should take to protect myself? https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/how-spot-avoid-report-fake-check-scams

Just one or two days in the office is the ideal setup for hybrid work, according to a Harvard Business School study. Researchers analyzed tens of thousands of emails sent by administrative workers, who were divided into groups based on the hours they spent in the office and working from home. The subset with one or two office days turned out more original work than the other groups and "this difference was significant," the authors wrote. The paper will likely frustrate bosses who have prodded workers to get back to their desks most of the time, arguing that collaboration and corporate culture suffer when people work remotely. Tap the link in our bio to see why researchers think the "intermediate" hybrid pattern works best.
