Entire Staff walks out of Blue Moon Cafe Shepherdstown WV
Early Friday the Blue moon Cafe in Shepherdstown WV made a Facebook post trashing people who collected government benefits during the pandemic and said nobody wants to work. Meanwhile they collected 350k in free money from the government and only paid workers with what little tips were made on carry out orders on the premise that they were out of funds and hadn’t received money. Upon other internal issues such as employees being underpaid and made to work in harsh conditions, sexual harassment from management, and the recent firing of employees who had worked there for over 15 years the entire staff walked out and was fired on Saturday morning

As rent rises and inflation has no sign of slowing down, when do small business raise their prices?
I'm a small business owner (Dog Training and Behavior) and I live in a relatively cheaper part of the United States. I have watched our average rent prices nearly double in the last 5 years and I'm looking for a new place as we speak and can't find much that isn't double what I pay now. Luckily, I do not have much overhead besides rent and payroll. I start my employees off at $50 an hour/client and my highest paid employee currently makes $85 an hour/client. But I refuse to drop my wages. So here's the question. Do I raise my rates to the consumer? How much do I raise? Or do I bite the bullet on ever hoping to make decent profit? Also, will raising the rates destroy me when places like Pet Smart charge comparatively nothing to my rates (because it's not professional training) and other hobby trainers won't raise their rates because the have other means of income?

How do you go about writing orientation materials/training for new employees?
I decided to take the E-myth Revisited book to practice, because I'm tired of micromanaging employees and it is exhausting me and wearing me out. I will create guides and checklists but I'm starting to create the orientation materials for training new staff we are going to bring on and I'm at a bit of a stump, I'm drawing blanks. I don't know if I should type it out as a pdf, powerpoint slides, or something else? I don't know what to put in there or how to order or break it up into topics. Anyone can help out whose done this before?

Building Phase Help
Hey everyone! I am planning to open a brick and mortar cafe, and I am very new to running and opening a small business. I am at the point now where I can start thinking of building and renovating different things in my commercial space. Like put up walls, knocking down some, and things like that. Where do I even get started? Who do I need to meet? I have heard from other people that I need an architect, general contractor, and other people to get my building needs approved and whatnot, but I am not sure where or who I need to contact. I have a pretty solid idea of how everything should be laid out, but I’m not sure who I need to reach out to, to start this whole process. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Getting best shipping rates for heavier items?
I've been helping with the creation of e-commerce options for a small business that is selling a horse supplement, but the products start at 10 pounds and go up to 25 pounds a bucket. Bucket size also varies between 2 gallon and 5 gallon. If we were to ship the items across the US, what would any of you recommend as the best option for consistently sending them out? Shipping one 25 pounds isn't the worst, but its still sort of pricey. For a multiple item order, it could add up very quick. I know there are some ways to get special rates, but I'm not sure on where to start looking for those options.

Advice for a Business Sale?
Hi folks, this is my first post here so apologies if I'm in the wrong place. Setup: My parents owned a small business that they sold to me in 2019 (I run it self-employed, if that's relevant). They gave me the loan for the amount of the business sale that I would pay back over time. The pandemic threw that whole plan out the window, and I ended up moving to a different city and decided to sell the business to someone else. Since I'm not done paying the loan back to my parents, the money from the sale will be going to them. Questions: Since the money will not be staying in my account, will it affect my taxes? Would the buyer paying in a lump sum vs paying over time have an effect on the situation, and if so, what? I'm not exactly in a financial situation where I can afford the potential taxes on a large transaction like that, so any help navigating this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Conducting Research About Hiring Hourly / Temp / Contract Workers, any help appreciated!
Hi small business owners, I'm trying to write some research for a thesis about what it's like hiring hourly / temp / contract workers. Since I'm sure many folks active in this sub has experience doing so, would anyone be willing to let me ask them a few questions about their experiences doing so? I'm really interested in the dual sided process of hiring and getting some primary sources to share their candid, unfiltered thoughts would be highly useful! Won't be quoting anyone--this is really so I can research stuff a little better. Let me know!

Silly question: What do you talk about with your clients/customers?
I have an ecommerce business so apart from emails/messages, I do not need to meet with my customers. On the odd occasion, I have a customer in my city and they request for a local pick-up which I'm fine to meet somewhere public to do. But...I have terrible social anxiety and I tend to be more conservative in my mannerisms. Yes yes yes I know it doesn't serve me well as a businesswoman but I want to learn to be better. So I guess my question is, if you were to arrange a local pick-up for an item, how long do you try to keep the conversation going? Do you just ask about their day? Or do you simply thank them and part ways? Thanks in advance!
