Does anyone work in an industry where they can turn away business that just isn't worth doing?

If you have enough "good" work to keep you profiting consistently. how often if at all will you turn away business that you just don't think will be worth doing. If so, how do you go about it?

Partnership to start an online store for established brick and mortar

For the past few months I have been working out an idea of a business where I would run a disc golf online store where we would offer a try before you buy option. The problem I’m running into is that manufacturers are prioritizing online stores lower than brick and mortar shops. Has anyone ever partnered with an established brick and mortar to either “share” inventory for their own online store or created and ran an online store under that companies name? I appreciate any advice or thoughts on this.

Best way to grow my customer base as a freelance Youtube video editor

My girlfriend and I are both freelance Youtube video editors. Our clients are both in Europe and the US. We found them all by emailing them but this is a very time-consuming process as I have to find my prospects by scrolling Youtube. I'm looking for a better way to grow my customer base. Any ideas?

Bookkeeping Question

I have several 1099 contractors. I plan to start using payroll software like Quickbooks or Gusto for 2022. Gusto 1099s are sent for incomed earned during a calendar year from January-December. I thought 1099s reportings should be filed for income earned from December-November. Please go easy on me! I don't want to screw this up.

Should I spend money on packaging my product?

At moment I sendy product is an envelope, which is then put in a bigger envelop. I am suggested by someone to give my product some kind of packaging. The only thing stopping me is "is it worth it to spend any amount on packaging for a small business like me"?

Starting a business from freelance

Hello r/smallbusiness friends. The last few years I've held an LLC under my name that I've been using for freelancing purposes in the production industry. I'm at a point now to where I want to expand into a business, from just doing freelance work to renting out services, equipment, and labour. I'd also like to move into a small storefront/warehouse. To do this, should I establish a new LLC under the name of the business I'd like to open? Or create a subsidiary after my already established named LLC? Perhaps just change the name? Are there potentially other options I'm not considering or overlooking? Thank you all,

How do you set your hours?

I work as an independent contractor (<= 20 hrs per week). I hate the idea of blocking out a certain time of the day every day for work and only working a percentage of that time. It's very unproductive. I also noticed this new person I work with does things very last minute, changes plans within 24 hours, and keeps re-scheduling out of my available time. I like enough notice to do things, and don't want to 'have a meeting' on their time the next day because I have plans too. How do I go about setting my hours and making sure they stick to it? I also don't want to cheat myself by being too open 'cause I'm 100% sure they'd try to take advantage of that. Thank you! :)

Consumer Survey Company Recommendations

Hello! I have created a consumer survey on cosmetic buying behaviors that I'd like to get information from in order to inform my business plan. It's for the cosmetics brand I am creating and I am wondering if anyone has recommendations on good companies that send out your consumer survey to people in order to get their answers. I assume I'd have to pay for it, which I don't mind, but I don't want to pay a ton for. Has anyone else used a service like this and could recommend? Thanks!

New Roofing business

Hey guys I am starting my new roofing business in 2022, and I am getting overwhelmed. Apparently they have upped the requirements to get in. I see that I need a GC license if I want to do anything over 10k residentially. Who doesnt do more than 10k?? Im planning on doing roofs and gutters, and Im hoping that some are 15-25k. My questions are: do you just break up the bid in 10k sections to make this work or do you get your GC license? How hard is the license? What is this unlimited / limited license I am reading about? What is my first ACTUAL Step! I am in Alabama. I have looked up my business name and it is currently not in use. I have a friend working on my logo and website. I feel like there should be a "roofing startup link" inside my government website. Who can I talk to about these things? I spoke to the HBLB today and they were very generic. Any help appreciated. Also, I saw where I need 4 freaking References if I get my GC, Who the hell gonna do that for me?!?!

What do you think of a concave pillow shape?

My daughter and I independently both thought of an idea where a pillow is built to have a more concave shape, made to fit more closely the natural form of the body. It would have more shape and support for the neck and around the head, while having a dip and less support right where the head goes. What are your thoughts?

Health insurance options for a partnership

Does anyone have any experience with a health insurance coop with other small business owners? We've been on Caresource the past two years, which has worked decently well, but now we're making enough that the discounts/credits are no longer in play for us. My wife and I run a small business, so we just need to cover our family, but all the insurance options are either terrible coverage or run $1100 or more per month. I've heard about health insurance cooperatives and was wondering if anyone has had a good/bad experience with that setup. Or if anyone has any other creative suggestions to get decent coverage for under $1k/month, I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Questions about helping a small business

Hi all. I’m looking to gets some questions about helping a small business that my friend had bought into prior to the pandemic. Once the pandemic hit, like many other businesses, he started to tank. He runs a Local game store. His profit margin are high on some products and just okay on others. The main problems I’ve noticed is that he doesn’t get enough foot traffic and he’s getting screwed by products being on back order. My questions: What are some ways that a business going through this could fix the situation regardless of industry? What are some ways that customers could help?
