Israel carried out a number of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip on Friday, and the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad said one of the attacks killed a senior figure in the faction. The airstrikes culminated almost a week of rising tensions following the arrest of another senior militant from the same group in the West Bank. A senior Israeli defense official said that the attacks targeted Islamic Jihad and several of the targets were struck, including an apartment building in Gaza, and at least four militants carrying anti-tank missiles. At least seven people, including a 5-year-old girl, were killed and about 40 civilians were injured, according to the Health Ministry in Gaza. This is a developing story and will be updated. A few weeks ago, Klondike appalled the internet when it said that the Choco Taco would be discontinued. This week, it reversed course, saying the beloved ice cream treat may be coming back — eventually. “We’ve heard our fans, and we’re hoping to bring this favorite treat back to ice cream trucks in the coming years!” Klondike tweeted at a despondent fan on Wednesday. Klondike originally said that it was discontinuing Choco Taco because of “an unprecedented spike in demand across our portfolio.” Tap the link in our bio for more. 📸: Klondike

🤿 "When I tell people about my first ever snorkelling experience, 'how are you still alive?' is a common question I get. ⚡ "Their reaction is not because I was in shark-infested waters. I was in a river during a tropical thunderstorm and was hit by lightning, twice, and lived to tell the tale." 🔗 Read the full piece at the link in bio

Rural school districts in Texas are switching to four-day weeks this fall due to lack of staff. Florida is asking veterans with no teaching background to enter classrooms. Arizona is allowing college students to step in and instruct children. The teacher shortage in America has hit crisis levels — and school officials everywhere are scrambling to ensure that, as students return to classrooms, someone will be there to educate them. It is hard to know exactly how many U.S. classrooms are short of teachers for the 2022-2023 school year; no national database precisely tracks the issue. But state- and district-level reports have emerged across the country detailing staffing gaps that stretch from the hundreds to the thousands — and remain wide open as summer winds rapidly to a close. 'I had monkeypox, this is what I learned' Harun Tulunay, a sexual health worker, contracted monkeypox in early June. He suffered severe symptoms of the virus, including fever, aches and blisters but is now fully recovered and back to health. The monkeypox outbreak has hit Europe the hardest with cases rising every day. Cases have also been reported in the US, Canada, Australia, Nigeria, Israel, Brazil, Mexico and other countries. While anyone can get monkeypox, the virus is largely spreading among men who have sex with men, particularly those who report having new or multiple sexual partners. The number of cases around the world is increasing, and the World Health Organization has called the outbreak a global health emergency. Now haruntulunay wants to share his first-hand experience with monkeypox to help people better understand the virus. #Monkeypox #Virus #Globalhealth

Patrick has only been mayor of Cockington, a small English village, for less than two weeks. But he’s already had his office taken away. That is, his small pen filled with hay. Because Patrick is a pony. Patrick, a 4-year-old Shetland pony with well-combed bangs, had been meeting with constituents at an “interaction pen” in the garden of a pub, which he regularly frequents for a few slurps of Guinness. But that has been dismantled, after a single complaint lodged to local authorities. The dispute is ostensibly about building permissions — but supporters are convinced that it was designed to take him down. Possibly by a human who wants to be mayor.
