You know what I hate about sleep training culture?

Besides everything? Don’t put your baby down sound asleep. Put your baby down “drowsy but awake”. Don’t let your baby CIO, but if you do let them cry you’re neglecting a need. If you pick up your crying baby and soothe them or feed them to sleep, you’re wrong for that because that will build an association. But make sure you have a bedtime routine in place that includes these things. I get so stressed sometimes wondering if my daughter will ever be able to go to bed without me rocking her or feeding her, but then my logical side kicks in like okay, she’s a baby and one day she won’t need this. She won’t be 6 years old expecting me to hold her or give her a bottle before bed. I often envy my mom and grandma. They didn’t have the internet pushing sleep training on them and making them feel like they’re failing and that their babies will never sleep unassisted. Just a rant! :)

A new report concluded that the teaching profession is in trouble and "should be cause for serious national concern." There is a related issue that is contributing to teachers' low morale: their lack of rights as educators. @joshuaweishart @valeriestrauss https://t.co/CUtVuHER1t

UPDATE: Fucking Rent

I posted not too long ago, [all stressed out about my rent increasing](https://www.reddit.com/r/breakingmom/comments/zyip5y/fucking_rent/] 15% and then more recently posted that I had [a first interview](https://www.reddit.com/r/breakingmom/comments/10jcnj1/wish_me_luck/] that went really well. Well, I had my in-person interview yesterday and rocked it. I just heard back from the recruiter and was told that I got the job! What’s even better? The salary is is significantly more than I make now. Like life changing! I’m so incredibly underpaid at the moment so it feels so good to finally be offered what I’m worth. And as if that wasn’t good enough, my commute will go from 1 hour to 15 minutes! I guess the rent increase was a blessing in disguise because it was the kick in the ass I needed to finally find a better job.

Why is everyone obsessed with knowing if their baby has autism?

Idk if it’s just me but if I search anything there is almost always something that comes up that says “is this a sign my baby has autism?” Idk what I’m trying to get at here but it’s pretty annoying when I’m pretty sure it’s undiagnosable until they are like 2.

Parents with two kids fed differently (BF and FF) do you see long term immune differences?

Wanted to conduct my own little research. From my readings I feel breastmilk protects baby while breastfed but does not impact long term immunity. Curious whether there are parents here with two kids fed differently and whether one of them gets more sick than the other? Am trying to make up my mind whether to BF for 6 or 12 months. From my readings I also feel the positive impacts from 6 to 12 months are much less than 0-6 months.

Paracetamol for babies

Is it safe to give my daughter one dose of paracetamol every night before bed time while she has teething pain (approx 7-8 days in a row)? Or should it be used more sparingly than that? She doesn’t ever have it at any other time of the day, and it really seems to help her stay settled during the night. But obviously don’t want her to take too much as we all know how harsh it can be on the liver etc. Thanks in advance!

25 hour drive with a 1 year old

We are going to be driving around 24-25 hours with a 1 year old (16 months). I'm looking for any advice and specifically was wondering if we should stop at a hotel for 2 nights or 3 nights. 2 nights would mean one 9.5 hour stretch, one 10 hour and one 6.5 hour stretch to our destination. 3 hotel nights would be three 7 hour stretches and one 4 hour drive. What would you do? We've never done a long drive with a baby before so any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

the Mass mom...

not excusing what she did or saying she deserves a pardon, but i've been thinking about her story. before becoming a mom and seeing stories like this i wondered what the fuck was wrong these women, how could a *mom* hurt their child? i'm coming up on my baby's 1st birthday and all i can think is: it's scary how close i've come to the edge and what i could have done. the load we bare is heavy, the support we get is minimal unless we seek it out, the hormones are a fucking rollercoaster...i've never felt as depressed and enraged as i have in this first year of my son's life. thankfully it's gotten better with time and i've learned to ask for help, but damn. it's a scary thing to wonder: in another universe *could* that have been me? so maybe this is a reminder to check in with yourself, or one of your mom friends, or a neighbor with a new baby... please don't come for me i'd never hurt my baby.

What's the longest your baby has gone without pooping?

We're on day 4 of no poop and I'm getting slightly worried. I know this happens but I never thought I'd want to clean a poop diaper so bad.

IEP Evaluation meeting Monday

My daughter is in kindergarten and has been struggling with school since the year started. Staying on task and remembering letters/numbers has been very difficult, one page of homework is taking 90 minutes+ between various distractions and outbursts of tears Her pediatrician tested for ADHD and said she didn’t have it. I can’t see how- I got copies of her scores and she is definitely within adhd range. They referred us to a neuro psych, who we haven’t heard back from yet. She has told me “my ideas come too fast” “I try to remember and everything just goes POOF” “my brain wants to remember” and has shown signs of sensory issues as well. I asked the school for an IEP meeting and am now feeling a bit in over my head. Does anyone have any advice or any idea what I’ll be going into? I’m aware of who all will be there, but am not sure of the process so much

Speeding up meal time

My 4 year old daughter is the slowest eater I've ever seen. Meal times take forever with her. Just eating a bowl of cereal in the morning can take 45 minutes. The kids at her daycare have affectionately nicknamed her the "turtle" because of how slow she eats. She never has time to finish her lunch there and she is often very hungry as a result. Dinners are even worse. I'm just looking for some suggests to speed up meal time. I don't want her to feel like she has to stuff her face, but some kind of balance would be best for her. Any ideas?
