just as i was getting to life with a baby she turns one

just a little rant, i struggled the first few months of my baby being born, or like, a lot of them, only the past 4 months have been easy cause i feel like i’ve been getting more use to it, but all of a sudden as i’m getting use to a baby, she’s no longer a baby and rapidly becoming more of a toddler, she turned one last month and i see a huge difference in her from 2 months ago, it’s crazy and i feel like i’m not ready for her to keep growing😭how will i even keep her entertained for longer periods? how will i fully wean off bottle when the time comes? i have a lot to baby proof what happens when she starts walking? ah these aren’t real questions but more of a rant😅anyone else feel this way to? or just really overwhelmed somtimes?😅

Going crazy picking out a crib mattress

FTM, Looking for some options for a crib mattress. What are you all using and what do I do with it once he grows out of it? Graco, Newton, Sealy, Babelio I can't decide. The crib is built and ready to go and he can't fit in the Snoo anymore. I just need to pick a mattress.

Hospital vs. Birthing Unit? Which is safer?

Based in New Zealand. My wife is pregnant with our first. She'd like to deliver in a birthing unit which is a place with midwives only, no doctors. This means she won't have an option for an epidural or an emergency c section, and the closest hospital is 20 minutes away. I may be being too cautious, but my preference is the hospital, just because they are setup to deal with any sort of emergency if it does happen, and it means there won't be a 20 minute ambulance ride. Anyone able to provide some feedback with regards to which option is better? Wife is abit reluctant to go to hospital, since a birthing unit would be much more comfortable, and also offers a water birth (hospital doesn't).

White noise machine

I’ve been looking on Amazon for a white noise machine. I’m not able to spend too much, so brands like hatch are out of the question. What affordable (preferred amazon find) white noise machine do you guys like? I’d like to have one with multiple different sounds to try as well. Thank you in advance!

Been borrowing E-books from the library/Amazon...

... and there's a surprisingly high number of smutty gay hockey player books. And baking themed Chick Lit/ Romance novels. I love the weird niche themes that I'm finding. I'm reading garbage because little kids don't afford me enough leftover brain power for books that I have to emotionally invest in. So now I'm reading queer werewolf smut because 🤷‍♀️. Also, 'My Boyfriend, the Caveman' sounds horrible and I want to read it the way some people like to watch car crashes.

How can I get my kid to sleep in his own bed?

I need advice to get my son out of my bed. When he was a baby, my wife found it more convenient to leave him in the bed. Long story short, she wouldn't ever help me transition him when he was young enough to be malleable. Now he is 7 and fully refuses to sleep anywhere else. It's incredibly frustrating for a number of reasons. He has his own room and bed that never gets used. Does anyone have advice to coax my hard-headed son into his own bed?

I’ve had enough

I’m just fucking done. But of course I need to have the damn conversation that he isn’t doing enough. He doesn’t contribute enough to the bills, the household, you name it. In all honesty I need to kick this man out. But first before the nuclear option I need to have the conversation and I need to not be angry or to make it adversarial or aggressive when I want to just rip his head off. Bromos how do I do this? His anger and defensiveness is on a hair trigger. He is verbally abusive. Like I said, I need to throw the whole man out. He deflects, gaslights. Total DARVO (which I learned from you all). I at least want to attempt this convo before the next step. Any advice on how to approach this?

Are we creating a generation thar won't be able to sleep in silence?

I mean this as a serious question. I use a sound machine for my baby, but I keep wondering about this. Id love to hear others thoughts on it

Is my baby unusually unfriendly?

My 10 mo isn’t friendly with people he isn’t used to. He’s never been, even before separation anxiety was an issue. We’ll be out and people will interact with him and he’ll just stare straight at them like. This emoji is the best description: 😐. He was late to start smiling socially. I remember his pediatrician commenting that it’s probably just his personality and that’s looking pretty true. He smiles and laughs a lot now but only with people he knows. I’m curious if this is unusual and maybe a product of something we’re not doing enough of (introducing him to new people, maybe we’re not friendly and not modeling that for him, I really don’t know…). I’m not sure if I should be paying closer attention to this. I feel like when we see babies out in public they’re friendlier than my kid.

Sanitizing cloth diapers

I bought some cloth diapers second hand and want to sterilize them before use. I know the basic process (dilute sanitizing bleach (minimum 5.25% sodium hypochlorite) in cold water; soak diapers; rinse in hot water until bleach smell is gone). The issue I’m having is in the details: First, how long to soak? Some sites say 15 mins, most say 30, and no one cites sources. The only times I can find elsewhere are for hard surfaces. Would it be the same for diapers? Second, the concentration of bleach to water. [This site](https://www.allaboutclothdiapers.com/simple-effective-ways-to-disinfect-cloth-diapers/) says 1 tablespoon per galleon. Does that sound right?
