What do you miss most about life before kids?
TW: pregnancy loss My partner and I just went through a miscarriage. It was/is sad but we're going to keep trying. It was our first pregnancy after 7 months of trying. I was beginning to have fertility concerns so the silver lining to our loss is knowing that we can get pregnant! I don't want to get my hopes up so was hoping fellow redditors could share the thing they miss most about life before kids. That way I can try and have more gratitude for the everyday things that I may be overlooking now because of my desire to have a family.

People will typically be more enthusiastic where they feel a sense of belonging and see themselves as part of a community than they will in a workplace in which each person is left to his own devices -@alfiekohn, #parenting

As mask ordinances lift in schools, parents may be wondering if their kids, and teens in particular, will make the decision that’s right for them, or if they’ll be swayed one way because “everyone else is doing it." @hgse https://t.co/cCyLl2H6Mj

What are things your parents did that you hated, and will remember forever?
The mirror image of another recent post here. When I was growing up, my mother was quick to anger, and would accuse us kids of all sorts of stuff we didn’t do on purpose (being too slow, clumsy, curious, …). The anger mostly blew over quickly and she didn’t get physical, but I distinctly remember the sense of injustice that came with being on the receiving end of that anger. Mostly I had a genuinely good mom, who loved us, listened, was emotionally available and drew up and enforced rules where necessary. But I also had an abusive, narcissistic dad, who has skewed my judgement on ‘bad’ versus ‘good enough’ versus ‘great’ parenting somewhat. So beyond, ‘don’t be evil’, sometimes I feel like I don’t really know what type of mistakes I should absolutely try to avoid, and which ones are memorable but mostly harmless (like my mother’s hot flashes of anger / frustration amid lots of genuine love).
