Can’t stop thinking about Uvalde

How are people coping? I can’t stop thinking about it and just how bad the state of this country is in so many ways and I can’t stop crying. Between the mass murder of children right after everything with roe v wade and generally just how wrong so much is in our country and it just keeps getting worse in so many ways. I feel helpless and scared. Is anyone else struggling with this?

My tween is a bully, but the victim wants to remain anonymous

A parent recently called me to tell me that my child is being mean to their child (being overly sarcastic and rude in front of other kids, and ganging up on the child online with another kid). Here's the conundrum. The parent asked me NOT to address this, because they are concerned it will backfire and my child will behave even worse towards their child at school. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can help my child change their behaviour without bringing up the bullied child or the incident I mentioned above?

Immune system for infants

I am due with our first baby tomorrow. My husband and I have been trying to find information on when it is safe to welcome visitors, going to "crowded" places etc because of baby's immune system. My husband is usually pro at finding science on any subject, but we're both having a hard time with this one. The health care guidelines in my country don't even cover this matter and my midwife couldn't give me a straight answer. TIA🤗

The children's book "Calvin" follows a young trans kid's journey as he expresses his identity — and was inspired by the authors' own experience raising a trans child. @sarahhandel @jojom8ah @AudieCornish https://t.co/iiLkzK4hIq

gift overload, how to make it stop?

We live in an apartment and we are already having to find optimal use for each space. We are having trouble with our large very family giving our son gifts pretty much every time they see him which usually consists of cheaply made plastic and we've requested several times that if they would like to give gifts we would appreciate something like a gift card so we can take him out for an outing or something yet we keep getting action figures and baskets of dollar store knick knacks. How do I tell them that we are arelady have way too many of those kinds of things without sounding unappreciative?

Brushing their own teeth

I am under the impression that American kids brush their own teeth from about 3 years old. Is that true? Does it impact oral hygiene later in life? I am from Sweden and it is recommended to brush our kids teeth until they are able to do a good job themselves, which is waaay later than 3.

do 7 month olds have tantrums?

First time parent here and last time I posted was when my son was about 2-4 months old. He is now 7 months and I think he is throwing a tantrum. He's been fed, changed, played with, and I've tried giving him something to teeth on but he's just slapping and pushing things away and refusing to take a nap. He just screams and cries and I'm not sure how to go about this. It seems like a temper tantrum but I'm not sure he's old enough to be doing that yet. So is he old enough and if so what do I do?

Cows milk protein allergy?

Anyone whose breast feeding have experience with this? Feeling kind of unlucky. It hasn’t been diagnosed yet but my 3 week old literally has all the symptoms- milk allergy rash on his face, watery eyes, sneezing, some wheezing at times, congested, gastro upset/gas, frequent poos that look like diarrhea 😩 I’m going to start an elimination diet today to see if that helps but feeling defeated right now. Apparently it’s only present in .5% of breastfed babies…

When did your baby start looking at you?

Hi, I am a FTM and a little bit worried. I read everywhere that a baby at 4 to 5 weeks should look you into the face and focus on things, but my boy doesn't really do that.. He is close to 5 weeks old and maybe he is just a bit too young? So my question is: when did your baby start to look at you and really focus on your face? Thanks in advance for your answers!

Cats and baby gates

I'm not sure if this is the best place to as so if anyone knows of a more appropriate sub please do let me know! I'm in the UK and we're looking for a baby gate that will have wide enough bars for our big cat to squeeze through. Apparently width between bars isn't information they supply when buying baby gates. We've seen some gates that have a cat flap but that seems pointless because surely baby will get through??
