The school just called and im ugly crying

My son started his first day of school in kindergarten today. I had a meeting prior to today to discuss behavioral concerns I had and to setup a plan for him. About two weeks ago we wrapped up a CPS case regarding certain allegations involving my father, and my kiddo has been struggling emotionally and behaviorally for a while now due to it. I was so emotionally torn all day today and anxiously waiting for a call that things weren’t going well because I truly wasn’t sure what to expect. I just got off the phone with his teacher, and she wanted to let me know she couldn’t have asked for a better day. He had a lot of questions when he got there, but he was kind, helpful, listened well, and his anxiety and fears seemed nonexistent. I’m so proud of him and this gives me the hope I needed that I’m going to get my happy little boy back.

Things that wake my 6 week old baby up VS things that do not

Things that don’t • The extremely loud smoke alarm • The dog barking 3 feet away from him • The pig squealing because the dog barking scared her • Dropping a glass and breaking it • Ambulance sirens Things that do • Me sneezing in the next room with the door closed • Closing the curtains • Opening literally any kind of wrapper My babies hearing is insanely selective apparently

Is it wrong to leave my son in his pack n play while i take a minute?

I (20f) have an 18 month old son. I'm a stay at home mom with no vehicle during the day so i'm stuck at home 24/7 with my hellion of a child so during the day if i get overwhelmed (which has been happening more and more lately) i set my son up in his pack n play/bed turn on cocomelon or elmo on the laptop usually i'll give him snacks and a drink. He only stays in there for 30 minutes max usually 15-20 minutes. I just feel so wrong for this sometimes like he thinks i don't wanna be around him.

Unlimited screen time cause I need a break?

Does anyone else do this or am I just a bad parent? I’m currently on maternity leave and am staying home with my 3.5 year old and 2 month old. Usually I try not to have her watch TV or use the iPad too much, but I’m having a bad day today and am about to lose it, so I’ve just been letting the 3.5 year old watch tv basically all day. I feel so lazy but it’s also helping my mental state so I can take a minute to relax. Obviously I still take care of her, feed her, change her, dress her, etc.

Thoughts on drinking while out with kids?

My ex and I are doing some birthday shopping as our little bean is turning three in nine days! (Woo!) We are planning on stopping to grab food afterwards, but we aren't up-to-date on what's "allowed" in terms of drinking while out dining with children. (No driving afterwards as it's right down the road) Is it frowned upon to grab a glass of wine or a beer while dining out with small humans? —A momma who just wants a beer with their wings, haha.

My husband does stuff

Yesterday my husband got sent home from work to quarantine as he has been close to someone covid positive. He went down to his mancave, get food prepared from me through a window and just isolate a bit from the rest of the house (he can't test until tomorrow). Today he has done all the house fixing shit that has been postponed! What happened? Did my lazy husband somehow make workhours into housefixing hours?! I am not going to ask, I am going to enjoy this for every single minute!😄😆

10 month old with speech delay, words of encouragement

My 10 month old is not babbling like an average baby. We had a Speech therapist come evaluate her and she said my daughter needed to score a 25% deficiency to qualify for Speech therapy. She scored a 22% so she didn't qualify. At the time I was relieved thinking OK, it's not that bad. She had some m sounds she was working on so I felt slightly encouraged. This week the m sounds are gone. All she makes are aaaaaa sounds. I just feel so defeated. I know comparison is the thief of joy but when I see other children her age or younger saying words, or even the bababa, dadada, lalalala sounds I just feel like I'm failing her somehow. I talk, read, sing, make sounds to her constantly so I don't know what more I could be doing. Even the therapist said I'm doing all the right stuff but no progress. I would just really appreciate some words of encouragement from parents who have had a Speech delayed child that caught up in their own time.

How do you react to conflict (physical) between toddlers when yours is "in the right"?

So my son is almost 3 yo and it very often happens at a playdate or at the playground to have any types of conflicts between toddlers. For instance one snatches a toy out of another's hands. When it is my kid who does it I calmly explain that is not a nice thing to do, he should ask or wait a while if the other kid doesn't feel like sharing. When it is the other way around though, I try to teach him to share or draw back, but some times it feels like teaching him to be a loser. How do you teach your kids to both be nice, but still stand their ground? If another kid hits yours what do you tell him/her (the victim)? obviously we shouldn't teach them to hit back but still we must show them a way to stand up for themselves... I guess ideally the other parent should be there to explain to their child it should apologize and be nice, but several times they just don't bother intervene at all... Thanks in advance for any advice on that topic!

What should I be doing for my newborn financially?

What do folks recommend in terms of financial planning for a newborn? I've started a 529 college savings account but I've also been reading about custodial investment accounts, life insurance, emergency savings, etc. Is one option better than the other? When's the "right" time to get these things set up? What's the best way for friends and family to contribute financially if they want to?

Kindergartener getting bad marks

Hello! So it is the third week of kindergarten. My daughter is 5 and so far has received two marks on her behavior chart for “not following directions”. Last time, she told me what occurred. I guess she put her folder back in desk opposed to her backpack. Fair enough. This time, she has no idea. I even told her I would not be upset. I guess I will have to contact the teacher? I think it would be more productive to have an incident form for the parent to see. Anyone else have experience with this? I don’t want to give the teacher any hard time. My daughter can be tough. 😝

I hate tummy time more than him at this point

I am so sick of tummy time. I have tried ALL the tricks and this kid hates it. Screams almost immediately upon belly touching the ground. Hilariously, he rolls himself into this position himself now too. I'm just sick of it. It drives me crazy. I guess he'll never crawl because he just hates it so much and honestly now so do I. 5 months of fit throwing and 0 improvement to liking tummy time has taken it's toll on me lol.

When researchers ask kids why they play sports, two answers always top the list: to have fun and to improve their skills. Winning never makes the top 10. Interesting! Parents, as hockey season gets going, you'll want to get ready for it with this article: https://t.co/HgCN85APKr https://t.co/1mTDe6PY9j
