what has your child said that made you want to work on your flaws?
my 5 year old and i were making each other laugh. me and him are basically buds now. i tell him "I'm so happy you have my funny energy". the word energy is just a general term we use when describing some personal traits. then his response, like in an innocent, no intention manner, was "i have your mad energy too". ive had anger issues in the past. it's been a lot better. i don't hit him, but i do yell, but i didn't think i did it enough that it stuck with him. anyone else have a similar experience?

Tips on how to get my 4 year old to take cough medicine that tastes like fruity ass?
Why does all good cough medicine taste terrible? My kid caught some sort of a virus (I've already ranted about it) and it's been hell trying to get her to take medicine. She'll take the organic hippy baby honey medicine now that she's realized it tastes better than the medicine with the good stuff in it that'll actually help, so there's that. At least she'll take SOMETHING. Even if it doesn't really help much. It just breaks my heart to hear her wake up coughing every hour at night. Any advice?

How much for a nanny bonus?
We’re in Upstate NY. We’re paying her for days off on all major holidays, including Christmas and New Years Eve. Her rate is $900/week + car stipend. She started in October. That said, I understand that a bonus is common. She’s a great nanny, and I’d like to show appreciation. What is an appropriate amount? We’re middle class so anything we pay is going to impact the budget. Thanks for the help!

ALL OF THIS NOISE is going to trigger me to lose my SH**
Hi all. Does anyone have sensitivity to noise? With 2 small kids, a husband with bad hearing who needs to have all volume up to ridiculous amounts, a dog, and three screens going at any given time, sometimes I think it's the NOISE that's going to make me SNAP. Does anyone have any suggestions? Instagram keeps showing me ads for these little earplugs, that I'm sure are just earplugs, but more expensive because they are claiming to be something other than earplugs. Are earplugs an easy answer here?

When toddlers get dysregulated, sometimes we know in our bones what they need. Sometimes we've no clue. Saying "I'm here for you." "Something is very hard for you, want a hug?" "I can see you've some big feelings so I'm just going to let you run around" can start calming.

Food containing minor amounts of alcohol - is this risky for children?
Hey everybody, I'm trying to find out if food that contains a little bit of alcohol is harmful for young children. I mean foods like apple juice, bread (yeast), sauerkraut (yep, I'm German) and so on. Some parents I asked said that they never even considered the amounts of alcohol in these foods harmful to their children. On the other hand another mom said she would never give her children sauerkraut (for reference, this contains up to 2% alcohol. Online I found that one portion of sauerkraut would contain 0.3 g ethanol) . Does anybody have any credible sources for this issue?

How to explain "No screens for a week" to a 3 year old?
I've noticed that my 3 year old is getting more reliant on screens and constantly asks to use either tablet, my computer or watch TV. Her behavior is suffering as a result in constant meltdowns when I say no. So I've decided to cut off screen time for a week. How to explain this to her? She keeps asking for any kind of screen.

Gift from grandma - bible
We are not religious. This is not a secret from my in-laws. We sometimes (pre COVID) went to church with them, but I think it’s pretty clear this is as a courtesy to them, not a revelation that we’re going to become religious. Last night, We went to dinner and my mother in law said to my daughter (4.5) I have a special present for you, your first bible! I appreciate the gesture, but it’s not something we’re going to use. I’m not going to refuse it or anything, but can I donate it?

Did you buy Christmas presents for your spouse on behalf of your LO?
This is my first Christmas as a dad. (Such a magical experience so far!) I just looked under the the Christmas tree and noticed a present “to Daddy, from LO.” Obviously, it’s from my wife. Did I mess up by not getting her anything from LO? I’ve never been as into presents as she is — gifts are her love language, not mine, and attending her family Christmas for the first time a few years ago was eye-opening in that everyone gave and received about three times what my family does — but I thought I was doing pretty nice this year. Was I actually naughty? Do y’all get presents from your babies?
