🌌 Cosmic blinding lights Caldwell 99 also known as the Coalsack is a dark nebula located within the constellation Crux, easily visible to the naked eye as a dark patch silhouetted against the southern Milky Way. Having been viewed by stargazers in the Southern Hemisphere for millennia, Caldwell 99 has no discoverer, but Europeans first learned of it from Spanish explorer Vicente Yáñez Pinzón in 1499. Caldwell 99 is located approximately 600 light-years from Earth and is about 100 light-years across. The dust in this nebula absorbs and scatters the light from background stars, making many of them appear fainter and redder. The interstellar dust is also so dense that it blocks out wavelengths of visible light from objects behind it. Credit: NASA, NASAHubble, ESA, & R. Earth's atmospheric glow and the aurora blanket the horizon as the International Space Station orbited 263 miles above the North Atlantic just off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. #nasa #earth #aurora #atmosphere #glow #north #atlantic #international #space #station

Elon Musk - Our biggest priorities with Starship: 1. Orbital launch tower that can stack, 2. Enough Raptors for orbit booster, 3. Improve ship & booster mass

Not that anybody asked, but the Raymond James Stadium, home to #SuperBowl LV, is oriented precisely north-south in the Northern Hemisphere. This means the Coriolis Force from Earth’s rotation will deflect any 50-yard kick, nearly 1/2 inch to the right. I’m just sayin’.

Using a 17 inch scope in the Atacama Desert, I was able to get this insanely detailed view of the Rosette Nebula

Wondering if any official source will confirm or deny that Batman’s Batplane joined the flyover at the last minute during the Super Bowl. https://t.co/xzjoVujHdg

So ends my Super Sunday Twitter barrage. Thanks to all who followed. Thanks to all who, as I do, like finding science & cosmic perspectives in everyday life. And congratulations to Tom Brady. We already knew you were G.O.A.T. But your performance today reaffirmed the obvious.

Explore a small region of the inky Coalsack Nebula, imaged by Hubble in visible and infrared wavelengths. It’s a dark nebula — a cloud of interstellar dust so dense that it blocks out wavelengths of visible light from objects behind it: https://t.co/6Ys9GTvEz9 https://t.co/tYhVlmLr7B
