While protecting tigers is no easy feat, it’s critical work. A healthy tiger population means a healthy forest that supports not only wildlife but the local communities that depend upon its resources. Meet Qui Shi, a member of the only all-female patrol team in China’s tiger range. As part of the Dongning Forestry Bureau, she has seen positive changes in the landscape thanks to conservation efforts. “We live beside the forest, regarding it as a companion, and I encourage my family to pay attention to the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature, and to care consciously about wildlife. As a keystone species, tigers represent to me that my work is meaningful.” – Shi says. #ThrowbackThursday The story of Cupid's birth at the #BannerghattaBearRescueCentre (BBRC) stems from curiosity and an utter disregard for boundaries. Her mother Kavi gave birth to Cupid after a probable tryst with a wild bear from the Bannerghatta National Park. After almost two months, the bear care staff received the surprise of their life when Kavi emerged from a deep cave with her cub Cupid in tow. Today, the five-year-old bear is an incredibly vivacious bear with a strong personality that often leads her into scrapes. Always found surrounded by her best friends - Shari, Suvarna and Swapna - Cupid's shenanigans leave her keepers in tears of mirth.
