In a nail-biting operation, Wildlife SOS and the Forest Department rescued a leopard trapped in a 70-feet-deep open well in the Pune district of Maharashtra. A log tied with ropes was initially lowered into the well for the leopard to hold on to for support. As the rescue team arrived, the leopard was carefully extricated using a trap cage and transferred to the Wildlife SOS Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre for medical assessment. His owner took him to the vet and said he wanted to get rid of him. His parting words were, “whoever gets this dog is going to be disappointed”. Luckily we have an amazing vet who asked us to step in. He was full of fleas, has rotten teeth and a collapsed disk space in his back. His liver values are high, which could be due to the state of his teeth. Currently he is on medication to keep him comfortable before he has surgery to remove all remaining teeth and retained roots. We don’t know how he was treated in his home but the condition he was in clearly reflects neglect, whether it was intentional or not. He loves other dogs, finds comfort in children, and is timid but gentle with adults. He is far from disappointing — He is perfect.
