Russian gov't-controlled RIA Novosti @rianru posted a video on Telegram made by @Roscosmos where cosmonauts say goodbye to Mark Vande Hei on #ISS, depart, and then the Russian segment detaches from the rest of ISS. @Rogozin is clearly threatening the ISS program. #NASA #Ukraine https://t.co/fj2coK1xR1

Elastomer Whipple shields

How effective would Whipple shields be if they were made of impact resistant elastomers? There are some studies conducted on science direct https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1359835X21000154 The positives would be that there'd be a homogenous material that with its high specific heat can prevent the extreme amounts of heat that normally occurs on impact during high velocity impacts formed by meteorites. The problems I see with this that might make it useless. Weak tensile strength results in snapping during a single impact. Large scale tearing during the impact. Erosion due to exposure, could be lessened with a coating, there are ways to reduce some of the negatives involved but whether it's worth it, I do not know.
