How far back will you bill clients, when you forgot to send an invoice in the first place?

I have an embarrassing amount of work I never billed for, spread out amongst 1-2 dozen clients. It is 100% my fault as I never sent invoices for these jobs. I have a neurological condition that manifests in stupid ways and I just…couldn’t send the invoices out. Would you go as far back as a year? 6 months? These are almost all for less than a grand, so I wouldn’t be hitting these contractors with any huge bills. My business is in the construction industry. I’m so full of shame over it but I’m also broke, so. Any advice/thoughts on how you would feel receiving an invoice from a year ago, would be much appreciated.

How do you separate personal from business expenses?

My side business income comes to a separate bank, which isn’t really a business bank since I do the business in my own name. But when I need to purchase supplies or pay for services, I do use my personal credit card for this. How do you do this? How do you keep track of deductible expenses separately from your say groceries?

Have you EVER converted a customer who gave you the "too expensive!" objection?

I can't remember ever being able to do so but would love to hear your experiences. I converted plenty of poor people who sincerely lacked money - they usually bought when they got money but never the "too expensive!" crowd.

Feel like giving up

I know this is annoying as hell to most people and I'm sorry for even posting it. I just feel pretty alone right now and figure you all understand. My business partners drive me fucking crazy sometimes. They're good people, we're all doing the best we can. But sometimes I just wish I could go back to a life of not giving a shit about work and putting my time in. Happy fuckin Monday everyone.

Finding problems and opportunities online

What are your go-to ways of finding problems and business opportunities and ideas online? Google Ads keyword planner (to search for unmet needs)? Forums? Product/Yelp reviews (to find common complaints)? Any or none of the above?

Do I need my own money or can I get a loan?

I'm just starting to brainstorm an idea to start a business in my small town for a dog day care. The closest dog day care to here is over an hour away, although I see advertisements for pet sitting all the time in town. I wouldn't be able to save up enough money to do it own my own (buying the property, equipment, plus other start up costs). As I'm starting to look into all of this just want to know if its possible to do most of the initial funding through a loan?

When do I need a texas sales tax permit?

I plan on starting my business within a couple of weeks and my inventory will be stored and shipped in Texas (I live in NY). I know what the economic nexus for Texas is but I can’t find anything for physical nexus. Also in case anyone is wondering I’m a sole proprietor and I do have a NY sales tax permit.

Firing Fast

For those of you that 'fire fast', how do you deal with severance and the employees career? For example if the employee has a family or left an already good paying job to join yours, how do you ethically fire them? Do you just let them go and give them x amount of severance? If so, how much. Or, do you keep them employed but tell them they are not a good fit and they need to transition to another job asap? Or, do you just let them go with no severance? Also does anyone not fire fast? I have always gone with the approach of growing people or just changing their role in the company to what fits them best. I've never really fired anyone in the first weeks like I've seen so many companies doing. But I'm looking into the 'fire fast' mentality and the above questions came up.

Have you considered quitting your job and turning your passion into your career?

I've been wanting to start my own business for a long time. I have passions, and loves, and want to do those every day so that I can enjoy working and not feel as though I'm just going through the motions for someone else's pocket. I want to start my own business, and make money by doing something I enjoy, but I can't seem to get the confidence to make that jump. Have you ever thought about making money from the things you love?

PhotoBooth business lost photos from event.

Hi all, as the title says I did an event and the pc in my booth crashed to the point that the hard drive is irreparable. The contract says a digital folder with all photos from the event will be provided to client. What do you do at this point? Partial/full refund? Any feedback will be appreciated. TIA

Need a different POS for family owned Jewelry store

My family owns a jewelry store that has about 1,000-3,000 items in it. We’ve used light speed for a couple of years but we’ve ran into some trouble with them so we would like to switch. Was hoping to get advice on what’s a better POS than light speed for a jewelry store. Thank you

Where do you order your totes from?

For those that sell totes with their art work printed on, where do you order yours from and how is the quality? I’ve been checking out Zazzle and Vistaprint, but I would rather like to hear from others experience and recommendations. TIA!
