I was advised that I cannot open my business unless I can double my expected costs and halve my expected revenue and still remain profitable. Is that reasonable?

According to my conservative estimates, my business will be profitable. However, my father told me that I need to double my estimated costs and halve my projected revenue, and only move forward if it remains profitable under those conditions. That strikes me as extreme and unreasonable, but I've never opened a business, before. Is that reasonable advice? Is it following some kind of rule or norm with which I was unfamiliar?

Change my mind: QBD is better than QBO

I have been using QBD for 15 years now. And I have a few friends who are newer and thus use QBO instead. I haven’t used it extensively, but online doesn’t seem as intuitive as QBD. With QB changing pricing, it looks like I could save a few bucks to switch online, but I really don’t want to. Anyone out there think that QBO is better and I’m just a creature of habit?

Absolute basics on starting a sole proprietorship?

I’m an artist just looking to sell my art in fairs and online. I plan on going by a company name rather than just by my legal name. I have no idea how to start. I’ve looked up articles and on my states website but my issue is that I have a very hard time understanding any kind of legal wording (I have a lower than average processing speed). Are there any “how to start for dummies” type of articles or YouTube videos or anything??

Hello, I am trying to startup my handyman business and was wanting some other input on business names to help with marketing. Thank you for all the feedback you provide!

These are the current names I have come up with. I want handyman in the name as it helps with marketing and search results however to some it comes with a negative connotation. I’m trying to market myself towards high quality work and “higher class” customers. - Defining Detail Home services (or handyman) - Enhanced home solutions - Finishing touch home services - The finest fix home service - Personal touch handyman - Homeline handy services - Choice Handyman - Signature Haus Solutions

SBA loans

Hello, Recently I contacted SBA in search of a loan to see if they will be willing to lend it to me, for now, my application is on hold since I have been contacted by a lender from Lendermatch, however, right now I am expected to pay all these application fees. I wanted to know if any of you have experienced anything like that with SBA if it's legit, and if paying any fees is normal also if you have any suggestions on what to do, please let me know. Thank you

Looking for a specific sign holder for a retail store!

I am interested in adding signs to my retail store. I like the signs that Disc Replay uses. They attach to a wire shelf and you can put different cardstock signs in the holder. They appear to be about 12" long by 2"-3" inches tall. I have had trouble finding replicas online, any suggestions? I attached a link to the photo. Buying a Bed&Breakfast/inn

Hi everyone, I wanted to get some advice/direction on how to approach our dream. Our = myself + active duty military husband. We found a property 2 miles from YNP. Amazing. Love it. I was a property manager at a resort previously, and have always worked in hospitality. The B&B at full occupancy brings in 300k a year, roughly 80k to run it a year and we would live on site. The property we want to buy is 875k for the land/home. The business is 200k. I have 110k to put down. That’s roughly 10 percent. Currently, I work a 1099 and my husband is on military pay which isn’t super sufficient. I was thinking a SBA 504 loan? Can anybody point us in the right direction?

Looking for POS help, switching to Lightspeed for our restaurant

Hi Reddit folks, we are a restaurant and small grocery store. We've been using Shopkeep as our POS for the last 3 years. Shopkeep has been purchased by Lightspeed and there will be a forced upgrade for us sometime soon. We anticipate a need to reevaluate our whole POS. We are looking for someone with some familiarity with Lightspeed/Shopkeep in particular who can help us make a gentle transition this summer. Anyone out there with familiarity with these systems who'd be interested in sharing your experience?

Anyone have experiences with hauling horses?

Hey everyone! I’ve been a horse person my whole life and considered starting a private ‘shipping’ service with my own truck and trailer. I’ve always been scared to have horses hauled by companies bc I never know how they’re gonna be treated ya know? But since I’m an experienced horse person and I’m super cautious and loving with animals, I’d love to provide owners with a comforting experience, knowing that their horses are gonna be taken care of delicately. Has anyone here done this? If so, what were the main issues that you’ve experienced (I’ve already had experiences with crappy owners and difficult/somewhat scary horses)?

Bookkeeping using Airtable or Reckon?

\*New Zealand based if that helps.\* Hi all. I am starting a fairly small tattoo and herbal apothecary clinic soon. I am keen to do my own bookkeeping to reduce costs, so have been researching basic accounting, and ways to track transactions and budgets. I am currently using Airtable as a products inventory, and have found it so useful for things like Customer CRM and expense tracking (even tho I have to enter in each transaction manually). My question is, is there some straightforward way to use/setup Airtable for bookkeeping, on a small scale? Would it just be better to use a service like Reckon for this? my only reservation is that I want to be as minimal as possible with the services I use and was hoping to get some insights on this. Bookkeeping is way out of my comfort zone so I'm looking for simplicity. Also considering shitcanning the programs and using a spreadsheet... idk idk! All advice appreciated
