How do I keep my home address private when setting up a DBA in California?
The title kind of asks it all, but for context I cannot afford to set up an LLC, especially in California. I want to set up a 100% online business and see how it works out, hence a DBA. I want to keep my home address off any and all paperwork because I have had problems with stalkers and harassers, so I’d prefer them not have any way of finding my address. The paperwork says no mailbox facilities allowed for my home address and address of business, but have any of you done so anyways or found a good alternative? Thank you!

Hi, I’m a 20 year old male living in California and looking for ideas. In my neighborhood their are tons of new houses being build all over the place (track homes). I’m looking for a service or product that can fill a need that every new homeowner needs. I don’t mind doing the leg work and going door to door pitching my product or service, I’m just missing the idea. My first idea was landscaping since all the houses come with dirt back yards but it’s difficult since a license is required for landscape work in California. I’m open to any ideas and also partnerships if you are near the LA area.

California: can an employee claim they were exposed to covid and not come in?
We have an employee who keeps using the excuse that they were exposed to covid and then taking a bunch of paid days off they're not sick and we believe they are lying. Is this a excuse that people can use anymore. I'm just seriously so fed up with it

Anyone know of an online service for sending Certified Mail?
A handful of times a month, I have to send a Certified letter for my business. Every time is a pain, and I’d like to pay a service to handle it for me. I want to be able to upload a PDF, enter the sender and recipient address details, pay, and magically receive notice when the mail is delivered, along with a scanned copy of the Certified Mail receipt. I am not concerned about the service having knowledge of the contents of the letters. Where can I do this for the best price?

I have a question regarding sales tax. I recently hosted my first pop-up shop event. Would I calculate sales tax based on my gross amount or net sales (after the Square fees (card reader) have been processed)?
Just curious

Label requirements
I’m a bit stumped. I can’t find any info on this matter. I shall handmade wax melts and when I look up label requirements on google it says it has to have an address.. the problem is I work from home. Everything is made at home and I don’t want just anyone having my home address. Does anyone know if there’s a way around that? Do you have to include your home address if you manufacture from home? Is there any other way to do this without straight up giving away my home location?

Time for a Brick + Mortar to Ramp up?
I opened a new brick and mortar business and it's very slow going. I think the people that would do an escape room or go for an ice cream (basically someone with a little cash and an hour to kill) + private groups would come in. Thoughts on how long this should take to ramp up? How long would you wait before calling it a day?

Shipping alcohol business
Have any of you started a business that required the shipping of alcohol? I've ordered cocktails online, but was trying to find info about permitting and intrastate shipping but can only find stuff for distilleries/manufacturers. Any suggestions on where to look?

Advice on letting an employee go
I have a very small business in a specialized trade, and about 4 months ago I hired an apprentice. He’s a very decent person, shows up every day on time, easy to be around, etc. The problem is that he is just not catching on. He’s extremely slow, and the job is quite physically demanding and he just can’t seem to keep the pace up. I’m starting to see my reserve account dwindling and I think I need to stop the bleeding, but I feel awful about firing the guy. I’ve been patient and talked to him about his performance, but I can see he’s just not cut out to be a good fit. Any advice on how to break it to him would be appreciated. I could use a little pep talk on whether I’m doing the right thing here too.
