Overshot estimate on materials for a project - (wealthy) client has already paid. Is it scummy to pocket the difference?
Not the best quesrion for this sub, I know - I'm doing a woodworking job for a client, wealthy business owner and family friend. My initial estimate on the job was about $600 in materials and a little over $1k in labor. He can easily afford it. I picked up materials today and once I laid everything out, I realized I bought 2 extra boards I don't need (at $37 a piece). Is it considered scummy to return the extra material and pocket the difference? It's a pretty high-end job and in terms of materials and labor costs, it's all within what I'd say is a reasonable price range, plus he's already paid up front for materials. Plus any type of issue during the course of the project could result in my needing to be able to pull more funds. Just looking to get a general sense of what the community feels.

Advice For Growing My Business
Hi! I'm fairly new to Etsy. (Started last year, but had to take a 10 month or so hiatus and am now starting for real.) After buying supplies, I don't really have anything left over for ads. I'm working on getting business cards, I've got a Facebook page, an email, a Google voice number, etc. Reaching my target clientele seems to be my biggest challenge. I have a pagan/Wiccan shop selling items related to witchcraft, so I'm trying to reach out without running into those who are violently hateful of anything occult. I'm searching for occult friendly spaces to advertise in, trying to increase my engagement, etc. I was raised by a person who had his own small business and worked at Renaissance Faires, so I have a little experience, but even after running promo codes and such I'm still having a hard time. The few reviews I've got are 5 stars, so I'm hopeful. I'm just trying to figure out what else I can do to get some orders.

Employee Maxing Out Income Due to Social Security Draw
Hey all. Looking for some advice. I run a small but successful store in a busy tourist area. One of my employees recently lost her husband and began to draw his social security benefits, and now as a result she has a maximum annual income that I have to watch out for, as if she goes over she will have to pay back social security. The thing is, I know she's hurting for money and her pay plus the social security still isn't enough for her to live comfortably as the maximum amount she's a llowed to legally make is ridiculously low in my opinion and I'm going to have to scale back her hours and cut some of her bonuses next year to accommodate. So that's the backstory. My question is this: is there any other way I can compensate her that won't count toward her gross income? Like, can I supplement her mortgage payment or something like that? She's a really great employee going through a hard time and I just want to help. I appreciate any information!

German small business: cheap shipping option to the US?
If there are any small business owners from Germany on here, can you recommend me a cheap shipping option to the US? Most of my clients are from the US but I don’t get much sales because shipping costs are too high. I use the smallest possible package with tracking and it cost 14,99 Euros(15,77 USD). I’m not selling enough packages yet to register for a special contract with the shipping companies (which are usually cheaper). And I won’t sell enough if my shipping costs stay so high. It’s very frustrating.

Has anyone here bought a small business instead of starting one?
Most of these posts seem to be from people who started their own company. I am thinking about buying one and skipping the building process. Sure, there's a premium but there's also a bit of derisking pending due diligence/looking at the books and validating the numbers. Has anyone gone this route? If so, what was your background prior to buying, and how was your experience?
