It’s Fossil Friday. 🦴 Step into the weekend with this unique fossil: a dinosaur footprint! Found in Utah, this impression was left some 83-72 million years ago. Scientists think that it was left by a hadrosaur, or duck-billed dinosaur, based on the size and shape. One of the most widespread dinosaur groups, hadrosaurs could be found living in varied habitats across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Some duckbills had large, hollow, sweeping crests on the tops of their skulls that were covered in skin that may have been brightly colored. Scientists think such crests could have been used as part of mating rituals, much as peacocks use their tails. You can spot this footprint in the Museum’s new Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation. Photo: A. Keding / © AMNH #paleontology #museum #amnh #fossils #science #dinosaurs
