The country has announced a new set of proposals aimed at preventing the next generation from taking up smoking in a bid to achieve its goal of being smoke-free by 2025. The plans include the gradual increase of the legal smoking age, which could extend to a ban on the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products to anyone born after 2004, making smoking effectively illegal for that generation. Associate Health Minister Dr Ayesha Verrall said: “We need a new approach. About 4,500 New Zealanders die every year from tobacco, and we need to make accelerated progress to be able to reach that goal. A group of high school students in Glendale, California, have designed a special wheelchair for a raccoon suffering from cerebellar hypoplasia. Mary Key said: "Students of an engineering class at our local high school designed this wheelchair for Boone. Boone has cerebellar hypoplasia which inhibits his ability to walk. "This chair has made such a huge difference in Boone's life. The volunteers, visiting the Nolin River Wildlife, and I take turns with him on the wheelchair because he never runs out of energy!"
