Man, having a newborn is the best
He's 12 days old and so tiny and handsome. And he smells so good and his little dimples show when he smiles in his sleep. And he acts like a deranged starving feral when he's hungry, eating his hands and trying to eat my face off, screaming the house down, even though he just ate 2 hours ago lol. I find myself staring at him for hours daily and my heart is so full of love just thinking about him. Yeah, I'm extremely tired 24/7, but as soon as he needs me and I'm cuddling him I forget what tired even is. Having a newborn is the freaking best, and I'm cherishing these few weeks because he'll never be this tiny ever again, so I'm soaking it all up now.

Moms of older babies, please tell me what you miss about the newborn days
My LO is 4 weeks old and cluster feeding and I’m getting dangerously sleep deprived. It’s been 4 weeks without more than 2 hours sleep at a time and I just don’t know how much more of this I can take. He’s just so fussy right now and nothing is helping. I honestly just want to cry. I need some help feeling grateful right now, so please tell me what you miss about these early days

What ideas / expectations did you abandon when baby arrived?
For me it was masks and lateral flows for visitors. I needed several hospital visits so had various family members and night nannies helping so that quickly went out the window. I read a book about setting routines but baby is full of reflux and wind so that didn’t happen. Plan: wake baby, feed half an hour and play with baby 15 min then put down drowsy. Reality: baby screamed for 5 hours and threw up. Sleep when baby sleeps. Reality: baby likes to be held and when you do get him down you need to wee/ wash / eat.

Please can we acknowledge how not easy a NVD is to recover from
I gave birth 6 weeks ago, and picked a vaginal delivery thinking it was easier to heal from (you know the old trope, your body is made for this blah blah blah). 36 hours of labour and 3 episiotomy cuts later, I'm still in pain and facing potential surgery to correct the emergency cuts the doctor made to get my baby girl out. Either method of birth is hell to recover from. Physically, mentally and emotionally. Looking after a newborn (even with the most amazing partner), healing yourself, as well coming to terms with this entirely new person you've become is something to be so proud of. So to all the new mama's (and papa's - cause you guys are amazing), well done, no matter how you're feeling in this moment. ❤

What white lies have you been telling your kids?
For me, whenever little one starts babbling, I'll respond, "Oh yeah. I know, I know." But I don't know. Not in the slightest.

Becoming a dad in mid/ late 40s?
SO and I are considering kids. He is 44. I’m 30. Has anyone had kids at a later age? Or parents? How did it go? We both really want a family. We can provide in all ways but I worry about his age. I also definitely want 2 and he would be late 40s for the 2nd.

Baby cried and then just...fell asleep again?
Is this normal and okay? LO was sleeping in his bassinet and just started crying, I was in the middle of something and couldn't get to him right away. I was keeping an eye on him on my baby monitor and just as I was going to go get him...he fell back to sleep. Is that okay? Lol. The crying only lasted *maybe* 10 minutes at most. Usually I rush right to him and pick him up. If it helps, he's 9 weeks now. I'm not trying to sleep train or anything this early, he just happened to fall asleep again after crying 🤷♀️

I swear when I’m driving..
And my toddler drops his hot wheels and starts whining for it non stop, I feel he expects two eyes to come out the back of my head like Gary the snail and search for it, and a tentacle like arm to come out of my shoulder to reach it for him. CHILD. I and DRIVING. And only a HUMAN. What do you WANT FROM ME. A giant pez dispenser for hot wheels perhaps??? 😑

JUMP by Kriss Kross
Is my 4(f) year olds absolute favorite song in the whole world. I’m probably dating myself here a bit but she heard it on one of my home mixes and lost her mind! Now she requests I play it when she gets in the truck from preschool, when we’re cleaning, and whenever I ask what she wants on her radio 😅. I get some weird looks but if you haven’t heard it..try it? It’s clean.

Me before kids: I’ve read all the Montessori/respectful parenting books and I’m only going to talk to my son in complete, grammatically correct sentences
Me now: (Chasing toddler son around house) “GOO GOO GA GA GOO GA!”

How old is too old for an Easter basket?
I have siblings and my stepson‘s ages ranging anywhere from five years old to 19 years old and I was wondering how old would be too old for an Easter basket.
