At a recent education event, two devoted educators debated the question: Is a university degree the worst investment a young person can make? The discussion turned on a bigger question: What exactly is higher education for? @jryoung @EdSource https://t.co/qUGElmSnKI

I want to get my adult age men self sufficient and my wife seems to sabotage everything.
My two young men are 26 and 22. They don’t pay for anything and they don’t hold jobs for very long because they don’t like working. I try to set budgets for rent and bills but she always come to the rescue before I can hold them accountable. We have money put away for their education but they have no interest. I feel that in the long term this dismissive parenting will hurt them in the long run. I need advice.

I'll just be over here and crying
My 2 year old has a Disney number game she plays on her tablet and the number 5 has this big balloon robot dude with rips on him that you're supposed to put tape over. She's absolutely terrified of that one and usually throws her tablet and runs away when she accidentally clicks it. Today she clicked it, freaked out and asked for help so I clicked the next number. She then said she wanted to do it and asked me to put it back on. So as the train that counts to 5 starts I told her she's got this, and she yelled back I GOT THIS. It was just one of those moments when you realize that your voice will become the voice they hear in their heads. I hope to God that she hears me saying you got this every time she's scared to do something, especially once I'm gone.

These YouTube vlog families make me feel like a shit parent
My kids love those YouTube family vloggers like the Tannerites and Shaneduras/A for Adley. Sometimes I watch their faces smiling as these YouTube parents do this expensive, fun shit with their kids and it feels dystopian. I’ll never be able to afford this stuff, they’re watching some other kids have the experiences they can’t. I wish my job was making millions of dollars on videos of me being a parent, but I don’t get paid to parent in fact it soaks up all my money and energy. Just venting, it makes me feel like such a shitty mom that my kids have these internet parents while their real ones work 60 hour weeks to make ends meet and barely have any emotional energy to give them. I feel so sad.

New flair has been added - looking for additional input!
Hi again, I've edited the sub flair options to reflect some of the requests I've seen. I haven't yet made it required because tbh I don't know how, it's probably because I'm on old Reddit currently and need to switch to the new version, which I'll do in a moment but meanwhile I have a couple requests for input from you guys if you'd be so kind... Does anyone here think I should make the default comment sort by 'new' instead of 'hot' or 'best', in order to make it more fair (in other words, the top comment would be the newest, rather than basing it on karma at all)? Any suggestions for flair you really want to have as an option in case I've forgotten anything?

Can we let kids be kids?!
I'm frustrated! Just want to vent. My heart breaks for my daughter 💔 She's 8 and likes normal kid stuff. She's been into My Little Pony, Frozen etc.. her classmates have been commenting (not sure if goes to the "making fun" level) on how those things are for babies, her water bottle is like a "sippy cup" because it's frozen and has a straw. She said the comments "hurt". 💔 Even though she knows those things are not true, she also doesn't like being called a baby. She has good self esteem and even points out that she's the youngest (and shortest lol) in her class but she's the smartest lol.. We don't baby her.. I don't understand what the rush is for kids to grow up... They will find out soon enough that being grown up is not as fun as its played out to be. Lol

So the big question remains, in a world where common courtesies come and go, how can we teach our kids to be respectful?! Both respectful to us and to other kids and adults? The answer is that WE have to model the respect we hope to see from our kids. https://t.co/NKX47TCiNO

How old was your LO when they first laughed?
My son is 11 weeks and I’m so anxious to hear his little laugh. He sometimes sounds like he’s getting closer to a laugh but hasn’t had one yet. I’m wondering are what time period is average for y’all. :)

kid taking medicine
So I posted yesterday about my 5 year old taking it upon himself to take cough medicine. He was high off his ass for 3 hours and went to sleep. Only issue now is I figured I would get ahead of it and tell his teacher what happened so my five year old didn't word it in a way that made it sound as though we force fed him cough syrup. But now my anxiety is spiking in fear she might call child services. Was that a bad choice. How aggravating is child services if they were to be called. My kids have no reason to be taken away but I remember in early 2000 my mom had them called because she bruised me and we were taken away for a week.

My baby was a table today
Today I used my baby as a table to eat my oatmeal on. She fell asleep nursing and I didn’t want her to wake up by moving her so I opted to eat on top of her.
