To All The Moms Putting Babies to Sleep
I am so sorry! Earlier my wife was working on putting our son to sleep and had been working on it for nearly 45 minutes. I, who was putting our daughter down for nap, hadn’t heard a cry or anything in awhile and ahead of heading downstairs I made a grave mistake: I texted to ask how things were going. Bad Idea! Apparently the text woke the baby, who had finally gotten to sleep, and now all that hard work my wife had put in was gone. Needless to say when I came downstairs my wife was understandably distraught and turned the baby over to me to take a few minutes. I feel awful that I just ruined all that hard work and stress that we all know can go into putting a baby to sleep. I’m sorry mamas and dadas, that was a foolish error!

I am a pediatric sleep consultant - ask me anything!
I remember those early days and just want to help others. I can speak from 3 weeks to their 5th birthday. Disclaimer - I can give general advice but am intake form would have to be completed for me to give specific information. Therefore, if I answer a question, you are not my client and I can not be held responsible for anything that you choose to do at your house. I follow all safe sleep and AAP guidelines. Edit to add: my newborn had silent reflux that was misdiagnosed as colic, so we spent 9 weeks, holding a screaming, overtired and in-pain baby. I have been there.

Friendly reminder to check your baby's fingers and toes for hair wrapped around them!
My 4 mo was inconsolable this morning and my husband and I couldn't figure out why. After about an hour of her wailing we noticed one of her fingers was bright red, almost purple, and kind of swollen. We checked it out and she had one of my husband's long black hairs wound up super tight around her little finger and it was cutting off circulation. As soon as we got it off her finger she settled down and was fine. My pediatrician warned us about this since we both have long hair, and also warned us if we ever have a boy about hairs getting stuck their penises. Normally we're really good at checking, but I wanted to remind other parents just to be safe. Have a good one, y'all!

How long should a 3 year old be able to sit still?
Long story short, our 3 year old daughter is a great kid in just about every area except sitting still in a chair. A good example of this is in Sunday school at church. All the other kids sit in their chairs in the middle of the room and can sit through the 45 minute class except mine. It's not just sitting, they do other things too, but a lot of it is going back to their chairs after each activity. She's always antsy and wants to get up and do her own thing after about 5 minutes. I see the other kids can do this, but mine really struggles with it. Same goes for sitting and eating at the table. Now when she's hungry, she sits for awhile and eats. What do you guys think is an appropriate amount of sitting a 3 year old can endure? Or should I alter expectations and put her in a class thats more lively?
