What do you wish you had known at the beginning?
Mods, please delete if not allowed! I’m a clinical psychologist and I do some work with the Labor and Delivery, Pediatrics, and NICU units in our large US hospital. My division just got some funding to develop training materials for these hospital staff - which can be about anything related to the transition to parenthood, child development, pregnancy, infancy, etc. I thought that this community, especially those of you with babies 3 months and younger, might have some good ideas about what information you wish had been shared with you about becoming a parent. Is there anything you wish your providers had known or told you? Is there anything you wish they had been taught about how to support new parents better? Any ideas are so appreciated!

Kick n play piano? Is it worth it?
I keep hearing everyone rave about the kick and play pianos and I'm easily sucked in by these things cause I'm a new mom and obsessed with my baby 😂 For those of you that have it, is it awesome? My baby is only 5 weeks so idk that she would get much use out of it right away but what do you think?

My husband left me and took our kids
to his mother's for the afternoon. I am alone and no one can touch me and I have the TV all to myself. I'm having the best time.

There's a big push to get children (often 3 & 4 year olds) involved in Yoga, Mindfulness & even meditation. This makes me wonder if children were given more opportunities for unstructured free play & time outdoors would they need to partake in these "stress busting" activities?

I emailed the psych hospital
I can keep trying to ride this out. IDK if it's PPD or one of the other acronyms but I need help. My kids need a functional mom. I need to be able to handle the stress of my life. I'm so tired of it. I'm not suicidal but I'm close enough I know I need to get help. They have intensive outpatient programs as well as inpatient and medication management. They also have chronic pain programs. I'm not hopeful. I'm terrified. But it's gotta be better than this, right? Anything has got to be better than this.

need a break, but then miss the baby
So does this happen to anyone else? My beautiful 4wo boy is amazing and I love him but sometimes the purple crying and the constant fussiness and squirming is just too much and I need a break. So my amazing husband comes and takes him for a bit. And for a couple minutes I feel great, I relax, I breathe, and I get something done, pee by myself or w.e. But then within a few minutes even if he's still freaking out with dad I just miss him and want him back. Even though I know I'll still be frustrated and probably make the situation worse all I want is him in my arms... Anyone else? Lol

"Oh good sneeze on mama" and other phrases I'd never thought I'd say
A first time mom memoir 😂😂 what are some things you've said to your baby that would horrify your past child free self?

Arm stuck in crib
My baby usually contact naps and cosleeps with us, but we are practicing putting him in the crib. He woke up crying in his crib and when I went in it looked like he had rolled, but the crib stopped him. He had reached and wedged his arm between the slats, and bent his arm, and was stuck there. Easy enough for me to get out, but definitely not for him. What do you guys do? Obviously this woke him up so he didn’t get a good nap. Do you use bumper pads? Just readjust every time? It’s nice to put him down, but not if nap time is going to be like this.

One study found that students who incorporated movement into their learning strategy remembered 76 percent of the material, while those who simply used their brain to memorize recalled only 37 percent. @dfkris https://t.co/WyCopaooNw

When did you stop swaddling?
I read that the AAP recommends to stop swaddling at 2 months. My LO turned 2 months at the end of June and I was surprised to read that as he sleeps well swaddled. However, I’m sick of swaddling 😂 We have sleep sacks for him to wear, but when did you transition?
