TOO MANY BLUEBERRIES
I have taken my 10 month old daughter to urgent care twice and the ER twice in the last week. First time she had black poop. Like black as tar and looks like meconium. Turns out SHES BEEN EATING TOO MANY BLUEBERRIES. Apparently she can't digest the skin of the berry, her diaper was full of blueberry skin. -_-,on top of this we had 1 ER visit because she scratched her eyeball, one urgent care visit for a double ear infection and another ER visit today because she pulled a side table down on her head and gave herself quite the goose egg and a busted lip. I'm not sure what the point of this post is š I'm a SAHM and my partner works full time. She's been healthy up until now and we just can't catch a break! Hope y'all are having a better week!!

What kids say to selves-self-instruction-during tempting moments is a big part of whether they can say no to impulsive urges.Teaching STAR (Stop, Think, Act Right) helps kids make better decisions. With practice they learn to put brakes on impulses. #thrivers

Explaining the atrocities of war to a 5yo
My son (5) and I were enjoying a lazy Saturday afternoon watching movies online. We came across "bedknobs and broomsticks" on D+. If you've never seen it, it's your typical old school Disney film with great acting and animation thrown in. The problem was at the end, when the main characters helped defend England from a Nazi invasion. My son didn't understand the historical context or why they were fighting. He's very smart for a 5yo. Understands topics beyond his years, and constantly blows my wife and I away with the questions he asks. I tried my best to explain what war is, and why these two groups in particular were fighting. I didn't go into details like the Holocaust, since this really wasn't the time for that conversation. He didn't seem to really understand what I was saying. So here I find myself asking you kind reddittors how to explain the atrocity that is war to a child so they can understand. Thanks in advance!

Anyone else's kids getting lots of colds lately?
My toddler (3) and daughter (7mo) are sick again, less than one month since their last illness. Since my son started daycare and things started opening back up in late May, they have had like 4. Are anyone else's kids just constantly sick? Because of covid protocol we are out for *ten days*. I'm glad they are taking it all seriously and protecting everyone's health but damn it is rough! My son is congested but has the energy of one thousand caffeinated chimpanzees. My daughter will not be put down and will only take tiny sips of milk at a time. I start a position in my new career at the end of the month and do not know what I will do for childcare on these sick weeks. I know kids this age, especially ones in childcare get sick often but this seems excessive š

Sharing isn't always caring, especially for a 2 year old. Brain development occurs from infancy into early adulthood (early to mid 20's). Here is a great article discussing why toddlers and even teens do the things they do! #ChildDevelopment #parents https://t.co/5mhcYdI2jW

Stop at 1?
Weāre struggling here. We both work remote in high demanding roles. We have 1 son who is about to turn 2. We had no idea how often children pick up daycare bugs and need to know how others in the same situation are getting by without emergency childcare (aka family nearby). Itās a constant state of anxiety upon every sniffle as to how we will once again split our workdays/meetings to care for him when heās home sick. As much as we want a sibling for him, we are worried at what life might look like with 2 and are confident that one of us will need to step away from their career to make it feasible.

I think he does it on purpose
Itās 2pm and we just had thunderstorm over my house. A massive thunderclap that caused the house to rumble occurred and this our 3 week old just kinda grunts a bit and goes back to sleep. But if itās 2 am, a pin drop causes him to send his arms and legs flying and he becomes fully awake like saying āwtf was that??! Help!ā

Articles or resources on being the primary or only parent
Honestly, tale as old as time for this sub. Iām staying at a hotel tonight with the baby, because apparently āI do nothingā and āIām uselessā. (We are moving, we are packingā¦.but only one of us is doing it with a 20lbs 6 month old grabbing at shit from a front carrier.) Husband is currently doubling down, saying I deserve all the vitriol heās been spewing. I know in my gut Iām basically trying to douse a forest fire with shot glassā¦.but any good articles or resources I can share with him? Both on the topics of how hard/time consuming babies can be, and how not to be a verbally abusive asshole?

When after birth did your stomach fully go back down? Iām 2 months pp and it still doesnāt feel right.
Hey guys! Iām just curious to see what everyone else has to say. Iām below my prepregnancy weight, and yet my stomach is poking out tremendously. Two separate doctors have told me I donāt have diastasis recti. This is my second c-section, so I absolutely anticipate to have a bit of a pouch and wobbly bits, considering I was on bed rest, but I am somehow apple shaped now, where I once was hourglass and Iām sad that this is permanent. Did anyone else just take a while to feel/get back to ānormalā? Just curious if this is something I have to go absolutely wild at the gym with or if time will be forgiving to my body!

Help! We have an escape artist!
Iāve been using the halo sleep sack swaddle for the last two months. My twelve week old has been breaking out of it like an escape artist.. sometimes one arm out, sometimes both. No matter how tightly we Velcro the babe in, they still manage to wiggle out during the night and cry shortly thereafter or an hour later. Baby canāt roll over so Iām hesitant on transitioning over to the one arm out approach. Thoughts on what I should do? Should I transition them out of the swaddle or pick up another one? Iām thinking of the love to dream swaddle.
