Most schools only have one counselor to every 415 students—half the recommended number—and in middle and high school, the ratio is often worse. When schools are short on counselors and other staff, that job falls to teachers. @HKorbey @edutopia https://t.co/HHPwdG7vbe

what is with these moms on peanut?!

I'm trying to make mom friends, I don't need to see 4 sexy mirror selfies. Also I keep getting "waves" from moms who live 5 hours away. I'm close to giving up on this app.

How to get newborn home safely without a car in a big city?

For those of you that live in dense, public transport driven cities like London, New York and Hong Kong how did you get your baby home from the hospital safely (assuming you don't have access to a car)? We don't have a car (and can't rent one as neither of us can drive), plus even if we asked a friend/family member to do the 4+ hour round trip it seems such a waste to buy a car seat for just one use. I will be recovering from a c-section so will be unable to walk or take public transport so... I get a taxi and my husband baby-wears on the bus/tube (60 minute journey across central London)? I can't find any resources online, and am completely stumped as this seems like a common problem without an obvious solution.

For parents who want to make outdoor time a priority, there are a few things you can do to help schools encourage more outdoor time and less indoor recess. Here's how to make small but important changes at your child’s school: https://t.co/03YxnrmE8K https://t.co/LcUqtE4P5E

Poo Hands

I was working away on my laptop earlier today, and my (almost) 17 month old walks in sadly saying “mama help hands,” and holding her hands out. It took me a second to process that they were covered in poop. First thought: please be your own, and not the dogs. It was hers, thank goodness, and she managed to not smear it anywhere else (at least not that I’ve found her). I hadn’t even had my coffee yet, and poo hands is here to throw chaos into the peaceful morning. Figured I’d share in case anyone was having a rough day and could use a laugh.

There are endless permutations of what each family values and wants to work toward, but the foundation that is necessary to achieve those goals is consistent. @DrSophy @washingtonpost https://t.co/WZz6UUFfPb

MIL picked up and tried to walk away with another baby at daycare

ILs have been visiting for the last couple weeks and there have been so many JN moments that I don't know where to start, but I think this one takes the cake. (well, or coughing in his face and putting her snot on him so that he'd catch her cold and not be able to go to daycare so she can watch him all day instead) Anyway she picked up this baby while I was grabbing my LO's things. When the teacher took the baby away and scolded her, she insisted she was trying to take the baby to a quiet place to calm down (admittedly, the baby started crying when we walked in) since the teacher was busy with me. But based on her comments afterwards (and the whole time they've been here, she has been crying to me almost every day about LO shouldn't go to daycare and we picked a terrible one), I think she was trying to passive aggressively tell me that she can take care of babies better than the daycare.

I’m at a loss

Anyone else baby seemingly get switched out with an imposter? My almost 5month old has been a dream baby, the best sleeper giving us full nights sleep at an early age and he still does. His naps however have gone to crap and within the past 3-4 days it seems like he’s a different baby. Gone is my happy and always smiling pleasant little boy, and in place is this incessantly miserable whining/crying and now he’s learned to scream/screech and it’s absolutely maddening. It often seems like he’s straining to move his bowels which I assume is a possibility since he’s not going as often it seems. I just don’t know what to do, I know I’ve been super blessed so far but I’ve never felt like more of a failure right now.

Looking for salty snacks that taste good & don't break the bank?

I’ve become great at making budget meals. When I meal plan well, I can feed my family of 4 for \~$25 a day, but I can’t figure out how to hack salty snacks – chips, pretzels, etc. My kids aren’t super picky, but they get mad at me when I send them off with the same snacks every day. Do you guys have any hacks to save a little bit here and there?
