Should I make my daughter sit at the table til everyone's done?

I have a 9 year old daughter. She eats well, isn't picky and doesn't really horse around at the table. I mean of course there's foods she doesn't like but everyone has that. My nephew is a year and a half younger than my daughter and he is incredibly picky and takes forever to finish dinner. His mom, my SIL always makes his brother and sister sit and wait for him to be done and in the past expects my daughter to as well. Whenever daughter asks me if she can be excused I say yes. My SIL always gives me a look or makes a comment. Am I wrong to let her get up when she's finished eating? I know theoretically it's rude to leave the table before everyone is finished (and I think that's why my SIL does it) but it's unreasonable to expect a 9 year old to sit around while her aunt begs her cousin to eat another green bean. Obviously today is Thanksgiving (happy Thanksgiving everyone!) But it's something I'm wondering for tonight.

Though a harvest meal did occur in the fall of 1621 at Plymouth, Thanksgiving is taught as a folk tale that greatly misrepresents the historical context of that time and excludes Indigenous perspectives. @latimes @LauraMNewberry https://t.co/OaTm9xyIet

“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” -Moister Eckhart, 14th century theologian. Find one reason for gratitude and it will spiral. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Why do old people always ask if your kid ‘has a girlfriend/boyfriend?’

My son is 9 years old. Every time, without fail when visiting my parents or anyone older like boomer age one of the first things they say is “so, you have a girlfriend yet?” Which is met with an expression of embarrassed confusion. My son is smart, funny, social, a little weird, and basically a delight to hang out with every day. And all they care about is is he out dating other 4th graders?! This infuriates me. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but it’s important to me that he can have friends and develop normal relationships with other kids (including girls!). It’s almost like they don’t understand how relationships between men and women can work without it being “girlfriend/boyfriend”…. which fuck that shit, man.

WTF PANTS?!

I fucking hate pants. I buy a size 10 to get over my big ass and hips (thanks DS2) but because ALL you can buy anymore is fucking high waisted jeans, by the time they get up to my stomach and natural waist which is where all of my loose skin lives, the pants are huge and I am pulling them up constantly which is ridiculous because they are nearly at my tits. To be fair my tits are closer to the floor than they used to be but THATS NOT THE POINT I HATE PANTS. I HATE HAVING TO WEAR PANTS

Would it be unethical to strap a Swiffer pad to my baby?

She inchworm crawls all over the living room and gets all sorts of crap all over her onesie. It would be much more efficient if I could Swiffer the floor with her. What do you guys think?

Having a pet is NOT the same as being a mom

And no one is going to tell me any different. I do not care what the fuck you say about your fucking ‘fur baby’ but it is not a newborn. It is not the same as a toddler. It’s just not the fucking same. There’s no fucking way you can leave a two year old in a crate for 8 hours and not have it taken away permanently. Last night at work, a girl half my age tried arguing this with me bc she just got a dog. She has no kids. Became very indignant when I stood firm and said that they’re not even comparable in terms of care. I’m still heated over it. Sorry. Thanks for reading my stupid coworker drama

The “birds and bees”

What is everyone’s opinions on this subject with their kids? My daughter is 8 years old and she knows about the birds and the bees, and I like to be very honest with her because I want her to grow up to be comfortable within herself and comfortable in life, but sometimes I worry that I’ve told her too much? She knows all about periods, hormones, when you grow body hair, how babies are made, how breastfeeding works, gay, lesbian, bisexuality, trans etc, I had to teach her about sexuality due to her dads mum being lesbian, but that aside, Sex and all the bodily talks makes me very much uncomfortable, so I guess I’m trying to make sure she isn’t that way. Am I doing it all too early? (My daughter learnt about sex from school friends, so thankfully I didn’t have to do that talk)

What’s the popular opinion on ear piercing for infants?

My intentions are to wait until she can decide for herself and actually have a thing for us waiting to do in the future. If the pain is not necessary like vaccines the. I don’t want to put her through it if We don’t have to. But then there’s family who don’t think it’s right since it takes longer to heal for them as they get older and I guess gender wise it tells her apart.

What youtubekids channels do you block and why?

My wife and I have blocked a few so far. "Come play with me" due to drama and bratty behavior. Ryan for his blatant toy pushing. Roma and Diana just got the ax by my wife due to their bratty behavior/dangerous video where they bite into real metal objects vs chocolate versions. My friend recommended I block Vlad and Nikki too.

What seemingly inevitable baby problem(s) were you worried about, but didn't happen?

We're a little past the 1 year mark with our LO, and looking back, we never experienced teething pain. Her teeth just sort of popped out at 6, 8, and 10 months-- aside from the deluge of drool, she didn't really seem any fussier in the days leading up to the tooth. Maybe molars will be a different story, but so far, so good! I was also super scared about the whole pulling-up-but-not-knowing-how-to-sit shenanigans, but turns out LO is pretty good at lowering herself down, so we haven't had to help her down in the middle of the night. What about you?
