When we look at a slice of the night sky, 𝞹 (or pi) can help us find new planets, calculate orbits, and so much more! For #PiDay, learn more about where we find pi in the universe: https://t.co/nfFgazopNe https://t.co/SabQ5TuNby

Not only the big galaxy M101 you see in this picture, but you will see several other small galaxies. The universe is full of galaxies. I took this picture from my backyard telescope. Check in the comments section for details. There is no way to comprehend how big our universe is.

NASA uses pi everyday! 🥧⁣ ⁣ For #PiDay, we want to give a shoutout to the value that helps us explore our home and the universe. Here’s a slice as to how:⁣ ⁣ 🪂 Pi was instrumental in developing the size of parachutes to land the Perseverance Mars rover on the red planet. In fact, pi helps engineers determine how big the parachute needs to be in order to generate the drag needed to slow down craft landing on Mars. It also helps researchers map and explore Earth and planets in our own and other solar systems.⁣ ⁣ In this June 2017 photo, the supersonic parachute design that landed the rover on the Mars on Feb. 18, 2021, underwent testing in a wind tunnel at NASAAmes in California.⁣ ⁣ How many digits of pi can you list from memory? Let us know in the comments ⬇️⁣ ⁣ #Mars #Perseverance #Parachute #PictureOfTheDay
