How long yoga classes do you prefer?
I get my instructions primarily through YouTube. A lot of my favourite YouTubers try to entice me to join their Patreon by touting how I can find longer versions (1h+) of their classes. That is not an incentive for me at all. I like my classes ideally around 40 mins because I do yoga every day and just don't have the time to be devoting an hour and a half to yoga every day. How about you? What length classes work for you?

How many mat towels do you have?
Hi everyone! For those who do hot yoga frequently, how many mat towels do you own (if you use them!)? I have two and I've found recently that it's not enough for as often as I'm going to yoga classes.

What to do if you can't do a pose?
Hi, I just downloaded the down dog app cause it's widely recommended here. I started on beginner 1 and slowest settings, so I assume the easiest settings possible, and put it on flexibility focus. Then it asked me to do this pose where I place my hands under my feat while standing with my legs straight? I can't even touch my feet with my hands stretched out? I have pretty long legs compared to my torso but still, are people able to do this as absolute beginners? What should I do if I can't do an exercise like this? Completely skip it, or just attempt to do the closest thing possible (so in this case I think reach down with my hands and stretch my legs, while not actually touching my feet)? (Also, I'm not looking to do in person classes cause of anxiety/self image issues.)

Tips for people with bad wrists?
Hi all, I am new to yoga and i am interested in doing it more. I have tried it a few times but i found that my wrists keep me from doing certain poses. I have broken my wrists 3 times and i feel it has made them much weaker. Is there any recommendations on things to do to to minimize the wrist pain of certain poses. Is there a type of yoga that has requires putting minimal weight on the wrists? Should i buy a thicker matt?

I stopped doing yoga for 2 years, now I’m back at it.
I gained 40 pounds and decided I needed to do something besides just walk my dog and go on the elliptical every few days. I used to do yoga everyday or every other day for 3 years. Y’all I’m dripping and red from 12 minutes. It wasn’t even high intensity, just calm beginner stuff to get me back into it. Wish me luck in finding my rhythm again and hopefully not spend another 2 years away from it!

In your opinion…
What does it mean to you when instructors say to “breathe into” a body part? I take it as focusing on that body part (say, your back), being conscious of how it feels, and potentially making twists/stretches/expressions deeper. During a convo with friends, though, we realized it means something a little different to all of us - what’s your take?

An Iyengar class is like a good Phish show.
I started with Iyengar in the 90s at The Santa Cruz Yoga Center. When I moved away from California I spent years taking other types of classes. Recently, in NYC I have found my way back to Iyengar and I don’t think anything compares. During a good Phish show, the band may only play 4-5 tunes during an hour + set. Lots of time is spent exploring each melody. Similarly, in an Iyengar class, we may only practice 5-6 poses in a 90 minute class. Each pose is demonstrated by the teacher, then we try, then the teacher stops us and demonstrates again, and we try again, etc. it’s really so different than the flow based classes I had become accustomed to. I always feel like a giddy student who is there to learn. If you have never taken an Iyengar class, I can’t recommend it enough. The teachers are the best trained and the classes are like a study lesson in your anatomy. Namaste.

headache after yoga
I have always been interested in yoga and loved doing it, tho I'm still quite a beginner, but always stopped because one problem kept showing up. Now that i want to start again, i would love to get some insight into this, as no-one could give me a clear answer, but i do wanna start doing yoga again. This problem is, when i do mild, strechy yoga, around the 15 minute mark, a horrible headache starts. I do think it's from me being super stiff and being prone to having knotted shoulders and nek. But whatever i try, it always does the same. The headache starts around the base of my head and shoots towards to front, where it stays in a way, that it feels like i have a migraine attack going on. After 15 to 30 minutes of than just laying on the floor, doing nothing, it goes away and it's just like it never happend. So, does anyone know what this is exactly and how i can get rid of it?

Is yoga possible with one arm?
I was just a beginner in yoga, but enjoyed it very much, until my right arm couldn’t function anymore and now it’s in a really hard brace covering my hand , wrist and lower arm. (I can bow my elbow everything below that is unmovable bc of brace and I’m not aloud to take it off) Is there any way for me to still do yoga? I miss doing it.
