Started bending backwards... my whole spine is adjusting?

I started doing some backwards bending poses a few weeks ago after noticing I was really tight that way. Something odd happened, a few days ago I started really being able to stretch into some areas I had not realized I held tight for years.. And as I got into them everything started cracking, my spine has been adjusting a lot over the past few days and I'm starting to really feel how tight some of the remaining areas are. Is this crazy spinal adjustment common?

Advice on new matt.

Looked over the FAQ and not seeing what I need. I'm fairly new to Yoga but have decided I want a natural fiber/hemp/cotton mat. One of the things I keep seeing with these is optional rubber non-slip backing. Is that really a big issue? The cheap one I'm using now is rubber anyway, so I don't have much to go on. It just doesn't seem like I'm doing anything that should make it slide. Any other advice on material, brand or anything that I should be considering would be appreciated.

Yoga and “lifting the lid”

I’ve been doing yoga for only several weeks and I’m starting to feel pain come up. It’s like pretty deep full body aches and agitation as well as emotional pain like despair, angst, hopelessness, etc. I’m doing somatic therapy for very early/preverbal trauma and I honestly feel like yoga is a more powerful somatic therapy. It’s removed some of the numbness and giving me access to some of the pain underneath. My therapist says if I can just let the pain come up and just feel into it without reacting to it, it will be healing over time. She says the body is starting to feel comfortable releasing some of the stored trauma so it can heal itself. I mean I can still function and I’m not suicidal or anything, it’s just hard to see through it when your in the Maw. Has anybody experienced this with yoga?
