any stories about pets and yoga?
So, beginner at yoga here. I have been noticing that it is super pleasant way of being in my body. I kinda see it as this stretching+ and it is doing wonders for my mental health. I also started doing light yoga at my home... and.... the cats are obsessed. And I was wondering of anyone else's pet seem to react to the energy?

Moving from beginner to regular flow
I would call myself an experienced beginner. I have been doing knees-chest-chin/sort of a chaturanga to baby cobra for awhile now and would like to move to doing chaturanga to up dog but I still feel like my transition to up dog isn't great, I collapse too much into my shoulders and feel like I am doing too much in my lower back. Plank and down dog are no problem. What should I focus on to build up to being able to doing the full vinyasa?

Favorite instructors/studios in the philly area?
I recently moved to philly from Boston and feel that the classes I’ve attended here so far are not as intensive/challenging as I’m used to (Southern California/Boston). I’ve yet to find an instructor that I can really connect with. Anyone here have any suggestions? :)

Pants not fitting in the groin
I keep finding amazingly comfortable, great quality, low cost yoga pants at Costco, but they won't stay up in the groin area, causing my thighs to rub. I've tried sizing up, sizing down, and every brand Costco puts on offer, to no avail. What alteration(s) can be made to make them fit? I wear the pants either with a long (down over my bum) sweatshirt, or in a class, so the alteration doesn't have to be cute, just has to be effective.

Karma and memory question
I’m having a very hard time getting out of my head and I’ve been absorbing new information pretty poorly. Is there any way to distance myself from my karmic memory while simultaneously perceiving correct. My perception has been changing constantly and I’m having difficulty perceiving correctly.

Yoga without Sun Salutations
I'm still learning but have been enjoying practicing for over 3 months now., why didn't I find this earlier in my life!!!?? Anyway, the more I learn, it seems most sequences out there are always based around Sun Salutations, with other asanas mixed in. I personally do a few classes per month and daily practice (if I can) and really enjoy the usual suspects on Youtube, they've taught me so much more than my in person classes too! As I am still learning and studying yoga I am not fully aware if the popularity of Surya Namaskar runs through every style of yoga, or if it is largely connected to Vinyasa/Ashtanga? There are hundreds of asana's out there and I am enjoying discovering them, just curious about the above. Is it because they flow in a particular way? And if so, couldn't many other variations exist to change it up a bit? Surya Namaskar is great, and I respect it's position traditionally and spiritually, but why so popular as a sequence above others?

tell me about your daily or regular yoga practice!
Afternoon yogis, I've been thinking about my yoga aims for the upcoming university year, and am wanting to get back to an established daily practice rather than intermittent classes. I usually do yoga in the mornings, but as this would be before classes, its often when I'm feeling a bit sleepy and bleary-eyed! Its always a nice way to wake myself up a bit in the morning. I was wondering if people could share their daily practices, about the length of session, style, whether they just flow or follow a class or video. Thanks in advance for any replies!
