How painful is yoga supposed to be?
40 y/o male, practicing yoga in a studio (black swan yoga) for 4 years now. Every practice is either somewhat or extremely painful. Its usually not lingering pain, and doesn't follow after practice, but I don't really notice anyone else in the studio having the same problems as I do. I've done a lot of different exercise workouts in the past, weightlifting, running, Crossfit, and I was in the military, so I'm used to pushing through the pain when it comes to difficult workouts. But yoga seems to be very different from the other stuff, and my pain/discomfort level in the studio doesn't seem to be getting better with better conditioning. Any insights into this would be very helpful.

When pain happens, sometimes your instinct is to not move at all. Research suggests that's not always the right answer. https://t.co/FdMQwpzXmv

Difficulty matching inhalation length with exhalation length
Hi all, I have been practicing Ashtanga for 2 months now and I have a question regarding inhalation/exhalation length. As I understand it inhalation and exhalation should last for the same amount of time. I find that my inhalations are much shorter and I am often unable to take in a full and long inhalation. Upforward-facing dog is an asana where my inhalations are particualrly short and I feel like there is no space to breath in more. Is this normal? Any tips/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Shoulder injury? The shoulder joint is complex & one of the most freely moveable joints in the human body so it requires a deeper understanding to individualize a therapeutic practice. A place to begin is with the O.P.Q.R.S.T. acronym 🤓 https://t.co/0FCP9G5qe9 https://t.co/lLlutcbuSB

Pranayama to help with depression?
I’m in a really significant bipolar depressive episode and I was wondering if there’s any pranayama to help? I absolutely love pranayama and do it when I can’t get out of bed to practice and realized there might be some better breaths out there
