Dramatic changes in the welfare of India's elephants are inevitable. Wildlife SOS is always working quietly behind the scenes to better the lives of elephants. Publicly, we've been demanding changes for years with our #refusetoride initiative in partnership with peace_4animals and we have seen significant changes in public perception as people learn about the cruelty of elephant rides. We hope these changes will happen rapidly for India's 2500 captive elephants, and it's one of the reasons we're working hard to expand our Elephant Hospital Campus. So we were very pleased to learn that up to 20 elephants may be retired from giving elephant rides at Amer Fort and immediately offered to care for them at Wildlife SOS. Read more about this in our blog (link in bio)

Running towards the weekend like ^^ Although the breed is called β€œOld English Sheepdogs,” farmers actually used them to move cattle in the 1700s. Now, the breed is famous for their shaggy-fur, that adorably covers their eyes! πŸ“Έ: Dewollewei Photography #POTD #Pictureoftheday #fridaymood #sheepdog

2020 will go down as one of the most challenging years. But for our team in #SaltLakeCity, it will also go down as a record-breaking year. Talk about epic: More than 3,000 pets were adopted, thanks to the hundreds of people who stepped up to #foster. https://t.co/Kpcuf4zlcg ^kw https://t.co/RZYvC1N4wM

A rare Himalayan Griffon Vulture was rescued by #WIldlifeSOS and the forest department in Agra. The raptor, which was found severely dehydrated and exhausted from the heat, was kept under observation. Once the veterinary team conducted a thorough medical examination and the bird regained it’s energy, it was released into it’s natural habitat. The vulture is a useful scavenger and plays an important role in the ecosystem as by feeding on carrion, they are disposing off the carcasses of dead animals that would otherwise be a breeding ground for infectious diseases. Special thank you to jeepindia for boosting our teams abilities to conduct such rescues safely! . . . . . . . . . #wildlife #jeepindia #vulture #raptor #birdofprey #birdsofinstagram #birdsofindia #wildlifeconservation #indiawildlife #rapidresponseunit #rescue #release #postoftheday #igers #conservation #wild #india #savewildlife
