“I don't want reality, I want a creative and playful take on it.” For jean_jullien, art is the simplest method of communication – “with drawing, there’s no need for translation from one language to another.” Simplicity is both his philosophy and his practice. From public installations and furniture to oil paintings and a publication with Phaidon, the depth to Jean’s practice is extensive. Architect and founding partner of CLS Architects, Massimiliano Locatelli turned a 16th century church into the headquarters of his architectural firm. Chiesa San Paolo Converso was once used as a warehouse for Napolean, a concert venue in the 1930s, and more recently, an auction room for Christie’s and general art space for fashion shows, exhibitions, and concerts. The offices are in a free-standing iron box in the church, leaving the baroque facades untouched. The building will also continue to be used as a venue for concerts and exhibitions.
