I’m afraid I fell for a scam..

So I opted to get my logo done by Logura. They guaranteed your initial concept will be ready within 24-48 hrs and a guaranteed refund. Haven’t heard anything back yet so I looked the company up and see all the negative reviews. I also see that they give you a run around for the refund and almost never pay you back. Also, I found that they seem to operate under different names like logoorbit.com and designkix.com Has anyone ever worked with them?

How to terminate an employee?

After 8 years of being in business, this is the first time we have had to terminate an employee. We live in an “at will” state, but this employee started having substance abuse problems and stole from us. We’ve been trying to work through her issues because she was a valued employee in the past. But her behavior is becoming more erratic and she’s creating a toxic work place environment. Does anyone have advice on how to write the termination letter? How specific should I be about my reasons for firing her? My hunch is that I should keep the letter short. But any real life advice from someone who has been through this would be very helpful.

Do I need an EIN/Tax ID number when I’m JUST starting out my small business?

At how many sales/revenue should I worry about EIN or should I apply now? I am self/employed and don’t look to hire people. It is a small lip gloss business. Also, what is individual taxpayer identification number (itin)?

Should I Work for My Ex-Employer or Keep Taking Their Clients as an Independent Business Owner?

So there I was, two years ago today, fired from the company where I headed the design division. I was the guy they called for logos and illustrations, and I was doing pretty well. Until, of course, I tried to expose the tax evasion schemes of my managers. And what do you know? The CEO was in on it too. So, I was out. But that day, I made a promise to myself. I was going to be a proud, independent business owner, no matter what. Fast forward to today, and I'm meeting with their biggest client. They're asking if I'll take on their work. And just a few days ago, my ex-employer reached out to me about working as a sub-contractor. It looks like I'm the one bleeding business from them now. So, I'm here today, seeking your advice. Should I work as a sub-contractor for them? Or should I keep taking their clients, who are potentially coming to me? What do you think?

License required in every state you sell to online?

Hey all. First post, please redirect if needed. I'm starting an LLC with the intention of selling my products online through potentially numerous outlets. Etsy, Ebay, Square Etc. In general, can anyone tell me if I have to have a business license in every state that I sell to, or, will my LLC and wholesale license in my state alone cover such things? I know things are so black and white necessarily. Just trying to get an idea from others. I live in AZ, and my products are small blacksmithing and woodworking projects - no bladed edges at this time. Please let me know if any additional info would be helpful. Any insight very much appreciated, thank you!

How to get around spam filters that has already marked our domain as spam due to being newly created?

We're a new company, only a year and a half old. When the company first started we sent out several waves of emails to customers using constant contact. We didn't realize the spam filters would stop almost all of them because the email domain was new. We've now had the domain verified several ways, but the customers we really need to get to are the ones that have already marked our emails as spam. So how do we get around this? I can't even create a new email address to get the emails through because the filters look for newly created addresses. Any advise would be appreciated.

New Business, How Do I Manage Receipts?

Hello, I recently started an auto detailing business and needed a bit of direction. I am paid cash for my services and have logged all transactions in an excel sheet so far. It has the date, customer name, amount of cars, and amount paid. Am I supposed to be using paper receipts and getting customers' signatures as well? Or is my current method fine for tax purposes?

Do I need to send a W-9 to artists I hire?

I run a small production company creating comics where I write the scripts and will be hiring artists to do all the illustrations. Since I’ll be paying them more than $600 a year, will I need to have them file a W-9 for me to later send them a 1099?

Opinions wanted please

My FIL asked my wife and I if we wanted to buy into his small trucking business (5 trucks). We are putting our money and credit up to support the business and basically he will be a partner (he holds the contract in regards to the freight). He wants to step back a little and drive only if needed, oversee maintenance (trucks will be parked on his property), possibly look into getting more freight business going. Right now we are trying to settle on what a good salary for him would be without breaking the bank? Without insulting him Should we base it off revenue? Set a salary then reassess at the end of the year or what?

Terrible service from Comcast BVE VOIP phones

I have been dealing with trying to get working phone for our small business through Comcast BVE phones since July 2022. The billing has never been correct and I cannot get anyone to fix it in spite of spending countless hours speaking with various departments. Once I get someone to agree that this problem is on their end and I only ever had 3 phones and have been billed for 9 then Billing dept calls and says, "I don't know what you're talking about, you must pay all of this bill or we will shut off your phones." Even the manager cannot get billing to fix this. I want to close my acct and move on, but they are saying I have to pay the remaining $ of a 2 year contract. Can anyone help? At the very least take this as a warning to NEVER do business with Comcast BVE VOIP phone division.

Resources for out of home food business laws?

Does anyone know where I can find the laws regarding food businesses that operate out of home in Colorado? I looked over the Cottage Foods Act but that seems to pertain more to people selling non perishable things. Mine serves different dinners every night along with occasional baked goods, specialty drinks and little things like that and I am looking for sanitation laws for people who serve food out of their home? If anyone has a link to a resource that highlights everything I need to know legally about selling food out of my home I would appreciate it!
