Chamath Palihapitiya's ambition has already taken him from Silicon Valley to Wall Street. But the 44-year-old says he’s just getting started. The Sri Lankan-born billionaire bootstrapped his way into riches at Facebook. Now he's the undisputed king of special-purpose acquisition companies, whipping up a frenzy that's made a fortune for him and his investors. A high-profile dabble in another recent mania — meme stocks — resulted in a $500,000 profit that he donated to charity. The next step, he says, is an empire of "all things Chamath" — casting himself as nothing less than the Warren Buffet of the Reddit era. See our full interview at the link in bio.

How to avoid losing all my money

Been swing trading for a few months now and so far things seem to be going well. I typically hold about 5-10 stocks at any given time ane try to limit my risk on each trade, use stop losses, etc. I keep reading stories about how people made all sorts of money only to lose it all very, very quickly. I'm just looking for some advice or examples on how to not let this happen to me. I know down weeks, months, or even years are going to be inevitable in this game. To lose everything, are people losing it all because they get reckless and/or overconfident and invest it all in a single high risk stock? Like I said, I'm still new to this and want to do my best to avoid common mistakes. Thanks!

● Tesla designer by day, chocolate chip engineer by night. Link in bio for more.⠀ ⠀ ● Remy Labesque has a compelling day job: He’s senior industrial designer at Tesla in Los Angeles. But for three years, he’s worked on a side project that’s enviable to people outside Elon Musk’s universe. Labesque has reengineered the classic chocolate chip because, he says, the 80-year-old teardrop shape is ill-suited to its function.⠀ ⠀ ● “The chip isn’t a designed shape,” says Labesque. “It’s a product of an industrial manufacturing process.”⠀ ⠀ ● The baking standby is optimized for mass production, not for baking in cookies whose broad surface area is better suited to maximize taste and melt-in-your-mouth texture. Labesque’s redesign for artisanal Dandelion Chocolate is a square, faceted pyramid, kind of like a flattened diamond. Two edges are thick, and two exceedingly thin, for even more textural pleasure.⠀ ⠀ ● Read more by clicking the link in our profile.

Home to the world’s second-largest Covid outbreak, life in India seems to be back to normal. Shopping mall parking lots are full again, and there are long lines for restaurants and salons. Scientists are puzzled by a steady drop in infections, with daily cases down nearly 90% from the peak, as other countries battle fresh waves. It's too early to say whether India’s current resilience will persist, but some experts speculate the country has already achieved herd immunity. Link in bio for more.

The "Buffett Indicator" is a simple ratio: The total market capitalization of U.S. stocks divided by the total dollar value of the nation’s gross domestic product. It first crossed above its previous dot-com era peak back in 2019. And although it has been trending higher for decades, even that long-term trend fails to justify the metric's frothy appearance right now. What's going on? One of the billionaire investor’s most-famous catchphrases comes to mind: Investors should "be fearful when others are greedy." Link in bio for more.

The World Trade Organization has selected Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as its first female and first African leader. The 66-year-old's resume includes two terms as Nigeria's finance minister and more than 25 years at the World Bank. She takes the helm at a precarious time for the world economy, with the WTO facing challenges from protectionism, the pandemic, and the growing chasm between China and the West. Any small business owners out there with no employees who profit over $1,000,000/year?

Curious to know what types of business would allow this profit and growth without hiring employees?

Banks manipulating price of silver and gold

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.inquirer.com/business/jpmorgan-chase-bank-gold-silver-prices-fine-futures-spoofing--20200929.html%3foutputType=amp Kinda old but it's proof that banks are keeping the price of gold and silver down. https://twitter.com/marcfriedrich7/status/1361334899563708417?s=19 Meanwhile chase owns a massive amount of silver. Who knows how much gold banks own. Like I've been thinking banks are setting themselves up by promoting btc and loading up on gold and silver. When the fed can't keep inflation down anymore S... will the fan.

CTO at $500/month no equity?

I am from a 3rd world country, and a German contact called asking to be the CTO of his new venture (he's CEO), with his investor (who will put the money and be the "lead"). I will be developing everything, website product infrastructure etc, for $500/month no equity, and the first 3 months will be "trial months". Of course he didn't say "CTO", he just said I will be developing everything. But come on sweetheart :) FYI I have a CS degree and have been doing tech for almost all my childhood and life, and have a remote job of 5 years, and experience before that. So computers are like my second nature, including software development and information security. Plus, I have 3 years of experience failing endless lean startups. Is this a joke or am I being too unfair and neglectful to an "opportunity"? P.S. Even though I'm from a 3rd world country, $500/month is still 1/3 of an entry level dev salary here.
