My first non paying customer

I repair car speedos & usually complete the job, send the cluster back & people pay me once they have received it back however I’ve had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with this one guy.. I knew he was going to be a problem from the start so I’m kicking myself for dealing with him. Trying to haggle me down because “it will only take me 5 minutes”. Anyway I fixed it at an incredibly low price just to get rid of him(£60). He confirmed by txt he had received the speedo back and it was working fine & will make payment. Days passed & still no payment. I have followed up with more messages & phone calls but he’s just blanking me. It’s not about the money, it’s the principle so I’m not just willing to let him get away with it. Especially as he’s a business seller himself. What is my best professional course of action? Thanks

I own a big space (big enough to fit a shopping centre) next to a busy highway. Any business ideas?

This space has never been used other than having olive oil trees (it’s in Greece, just outside a small town) but I really think that not making anything from such place is a waste of money and opportunities. After 20 years of having it, we (with my family) are thinking of making a drive-in coffee shop, since many cars pass by (about 30,000 on a busy day, with some rough estimations). However, maybe a drive-in coffee shop sets the bar too low, especially considering the huge space that would still be unused. Any ideas would be more than welcome.

How to politely tell a customer that I can't do any work for them until they pay what they already owe.

I've got a customer who now owes £50k. They have given me orders for another £50k of work....I'm not really comfortable doing any more work as in my eyes they are 'maxed out' in my line of credit.....until they pay up.....How I tell them this without causing them to get their backs up?

how to determine employee worth and salary

I am a small business owner and own a private physical therapy practice. My business is in it's 5th year and continues to do better yearly. I have two employees that I pay hourly. I have two independent contractors. One of my employees is a physical therapist. My second employee is the office manager. The office manager is the one and only admin I have. Her responsibilities include: first point of contact/ sales for all new patients, all office admin including ordering supplies, scheduling, phones, and she also manages/ designs my website/ branding/ social media, writes all of the copy for web and marketing goods. In small business, employees usually wear many hats so determining the going rate is challenging. What are your thoughts on finding fair wages for small business employees with non-standardized roles?

Should I feel guilty only wanting to work Monday-Friday

Last year I was running my own painting business, one thing leads to another I decided to take a pause. I didn’t have my certificate & license for painting and other complications occurred. I worked big hours though, 50+ a week 6-7 days a week. And it burnt me out! First starting I was only quoting jobs at like a 20% decrease than others just to get work, sometimes even lower. There are a lot of things I need to change if I want to start back up again. Pretty much, I only want to work Monday - Friday 40 hours a week, but for some reason I feel guilty about it. I always hear you have to work “all the time” if you want to grow a good business, but I don’t know. I enjoy painting, but I don’t enjoy working big hours. Let me know what everyone thinks of all this, cheers :)

Slack-Google-Zoom or Microsoft?

I work at a small company where resources are tight. We have been using Slack for inter-company communication, the Google suite for documents/presentations/spreadsheets, and Zoom for all sales and internal meetings. Problem is, we have reached our storage limit in Slack and will have to pay to retain full message history and uploads. And the free Google apps we've been using are now not going to be free anymore, so we're looking at having to upgrade that as well. The question is, do we continue on this Slack/Zoom/Google path? Or do we use this opportunity to go full Microsoft with their Office, Teams, etc? Money matters a lot. But so does the hassle of migrating and learning new stuff. It would have to save us significantly and/or give us great new functionality to be worth it. Thoughts? Recommendations? Warnings?

● Exxon updated company guidance on what flags can be displayed outside its offices, banning “external position flags” such as PRIDE and Black Lives Matter, according to the policy seen by Bloomberg News. ● The change has prompted a furious backlash from the company's Houston-based employees. ● The dispute comes as employees, investors and customers increasingly push America’s biggest corporations to take stances on social issues such as LGBTQ rights, racial equality and abortion. ● Tap the link in our bio for the full story.
