My mom passed away from COVID last year - Left me $100K - How should I invest ?

I know this question gets asked a lot... Little about me: mid 30's, $80K salary, contribute to my 401k with every paycheck (no other investments), no debt, have home with low mortgage, have $50K emergency fund in savings. I don't really have any targeted investment goals besides just general growth and maybe some passive income. There's so much information/ideas out there. I like ETF's - was going to maybe just do a basic Vanguard portfolio split 70/30 stocks and bonds. (VTI, VXUS, VXF, BND, BNDX). I've seen some stuff out there about utilizing high dividend yield ETF's for passive income as well. Some say it's a good idea, others say just to focus on growth. Any thoughts on my situation are appreciated. Thanks.

Why is living off of dividends such a popular concept?

From what I have seen, historically, reinvesting your dividends leads to significantly greater returns vs not reinvesting them. Why are so many people proponents of giving up the extra compund growth from reinvested dividends? I understand the appeal of having "passive income" but to me it seems like stealing money from your future self. Unless I have a gross concept error on what living off dividends really entails, I can't help but think people are too enamored with "free money" to consider the gains they are giving up as a consequence.

Business Outings

We've tossed around the idea of a monthly company outing to help build friendship/team/reduce stress. Basically one day a month shut down the office and go do something together. Mini golf, bowling, etc. Looking for ideas of things to do/input from others who have done this with their small teams.

The way we give and receive feedback is all wrong. We need to focus on strengths — not dwell on what we perceive as shortcomings. https://t.co/6rAEyn7t2L

Investing in top 5 S&P stocks returned 39% in backtesting

Investing in top 5 S&P stocks returned an average of 39% I was curious about some aggressive growth investing, so I did some backtesting. If you take the top 5 stocks in the S&P and invest 20% into each for the year they were in the top 5, your average return from 1986-2017 is 39%. One flaw I’ve realized is that this only represents the stocks by year, and not by month. The software I was using required an individual backtest year by year, so a month to month backtest would require 12x as many tests. Is this worth looking further into or am I missing something?

Stocks or real estate investing

Hi guys! I’ve been thinking of buying real estate within the next few years. The only issue is I don’t have enough saved up yet and I don’t have 2 years of w-2 employment so I’m working on that. Meanwhile I have a few thousand in my checking account and was wondering if I should put most of the money I don’t need for now into an index fund to make some gains on those, then liquidate my stocks and index funds when I’m ready to buy my first real estate. It just makes me uneasy that I have money in my checking account and it’s just sitting there. I also don’t have a savings account and don’t want to put that money in such a low savings. What do you guys think of putting most of my money in index funds until I’m ready to liquidate to b it real estate, any opinion or advice would be appreciated!

The tweeter who posted this comment on a recent Friday night clearly knew what was coming: “Unpopular opinion: the best thing young people can do early in their careers is to work on the weekends.” Her claim spawned thousands of satirical and scathing responses. "Does hustle mean working on the weekends? Not in every city. And does working on the weekends lead to riches? Not in every industry," writes bloombergopinion's Sarah Green Carmichael. Overwork essentially functions as a form of social currency. Some researchers have even called long hours a “masculinity contest.” But someone who has to work weekends to get the job done — especially when the job consists of a pretty low-level set of tasks — doesn’t seem like a good candidate for promotion. Tap the link in our bio to read the column in full. #working #weekend #weekendwork

Good design can make or break your business. Change my mind.

I’ll start. RX Bar did $2 million the first year with crappy design. RX Bar did $6.5 million the second year with crappy design. RX Bar rebranded their third year and did $161 million in revenue later to be acquired by Kellogg’s for $600 million. A good product can get you far, but good design can get you farther 🤷‍♂️

Owner offered to sell business. What other information do I need?

I have worked at a coffee shop the past 2 years. I’m essentially the ‘manager’ as I do ordering, open most mornings, write the schedule, basic banking(deposit/change). The owner’s husband is getting transferred(military) and says she doesn’t think she has the time to continue running the shop. They approached me to buy the business and all equipment/inventory. Besides financial information, inventory and rental agreement, what other information should I be asking for? What are some signs to look out for? Especially covid related. Should ppp loans the owners got be listed? Is there a way to verify they were forgiven? Thanks for any help or pointers.

Anyone have experience buying liquidation and returned TVs for resale?

I'm looking into the viability of buying stock, specifically TVs, to look to resale, buying pallets of liquidation or returns stock. Assuming fixing broken stock would be the more cost effective option but wonder if this can be done just as well with non broken. Also, contacts in this area seem to be just a middle man, so like to see how to go about sourcing direct from suppliers or stores. Has anyone had experience in this field at all? I'm based in the UK and interested to find someone who may have gone down this road before? Thanks

New Website For Our Business - Feedback Needed

Hello everyone, we just launched a demo version of our new website (still needs some optimization and content addition) and was wondering if anyone could take some time to check the site out and provide some feedback. I'm primarily intrested in how the page navigation is and if it is easy to use. Thank you all! Website: [https://nightstormdigital.com/](https://nightstormdigital.com/)
