US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has become the highest-ranking American politician to visit Taiwan in 25 years, prompting China to announce missile tests and military drills encircling the island that set the stage for some of its most provocative actions in decades. Pelosi on Tuesday night greeted Taiwanese officials including Foreign Minister Joseph Wu on the tarmac, where she posed for photos. She plans to hold a joint press briefing with President Tsai Ing-wen on Wednesday, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Pelosi said after landing that her visit “in no way contradicts longstanding United States policy” and that America “continues to oppose unilateral efforts to change the status quo.” Tap the link in our bio for more.

The scourge of inflation is coming for Ferrari NV dealerships. The maker of 215,000-euro ($219,460) Portofino and 1.6 million-euro Monza models will raise prices in the first quarter of next year, CEO Benedetto Vigna said on an earnings call. Ferrari raised its forecasts for full-year revenue, adjusted earnings and free cash flow, as strong demand helps offset higher costs hitting the Maranello, Italy-based manufacturer. ● According to the dictionary, the US went into a technical recession on Thursday, when it was confirmed that the economy had shrunk for two consecutive quarters. ● But that doesn’t mean this is actually a recession. The pleasure of announcing one of those goes to an obscure panel of eight economists. ● Could the American people manifest their own recession? If people fear that the economy is about to go downhill, they’ll reduce spending, trade down to cheaper brands, postpone consumption and generally be more economical. If enough people do that, you get a recession. ● Tap the link in our bio for more. (📸: Olivier Douliery/AFP via Getty Images)

The first vote on abortion access since the US Supreme Court stripped away federal protection for the procedure is taking place in Kansas on Tuesday following a bitter campaign that has divided politicians, neighbours and even families. The proposed Value Them Both amendment would overturn a 2019 ruling by the Kansas Supreme Court that found women had the right to make decisions about their bodies, including whether to terminate a pregnancy. Supporters say it would empower Kansans to prevent abortion on demand and would not necessarily lead to a total ban on abortion. But opponents warn that if the amendment passes, the Republican-controlled legislature will rush to enact a strict ban that would be devastating for women there and elsewhere who rely on its four remaining abortion clinics due to bans in neighbouring states. While recession fears have seen new listings grind to a halt this year, one of the few companies currently seeking to go public in Mumbai is testing investor appetite for India’s growing wine market. Sula Vineyards Ltd., which last month filed for an initial public offering, says it has over a 50% share of India’s small but rapidly growing wine market. The 26-year-old company has opened tasting rooms and hosted an annual music festival as part of its effort to make the drink fashionable in a young country with an expanding middle class. #sula #sulavineyards #wine #winemaker #india #ipo
