The US consumer price index rose by 8.5% year on year in July, a slower annual increase compared with June. Inflationary pressures have been eased on the back of lower petrol prices. The data, though, are unlikely to represent a large enough shift to stop the Federal Reserve from ploughing ahead with more aggressive tightening of monetary policy to subdue inflation. The inflation data were released after a strong jobs report last Friday that stamped out fears of a near-term recession but suggested the Fed was struggling to cool down the overheated economy. Tap the link in our bio to see our global inflation tracker, where you can explore inflation data for your country. #inflation #US #economy #USeconomy #financialtimes #recession

Like dating in Jane Austen’s England, attracting a buyer for your historic country house can sometimes require a degree of patience. The owners of Luckington Court in Wiltshire, which famously formed the backdrop of the BBC’s 1995 Pride and Prejudice mini-series, have slashed a third off the asking price to attract and seal the deal with their own figurative Mr. Darcy. Suitors now need an offer of at least £6 million ($7.3 million) to be in the running, down from £9 million in 2018. But fans hoping to recreate the moment when Colin Firth emerges dripping wet from a lake may be disappointed. Tap the link in our bio to see more. (via bloombergpursuits)

A Nebraska woman was charged with two felonies related to an illegal abortion after authorities collected private messages between her and her daughter on Facebook Messenger, according to court documents. Her daughter is also facing related charges. The messages were gathered from Facebook parent company Meta using a search warrant after investigators in June requested the woman’s personal information. In response to the case, Meta spokesman Andy Stone emphasized that the request from law enforcement didn’t discuss abortion. The case renewed debate about how law enforcement may use social media accounts in cases involving reproductive choices. Full story at the link in bio.

Little is known about the evidence and motives behind the FBI’s search of former President Donald Trump’s Florida home, as part of an investigation into whether he improperly took documents from the White House. But as with so much related to Trump’s time in office, the search appears to have landed investigators in uncharted territory. What is the Presidential Records Act and what happens if it's violated? Elon Musk sold $6.9 billion of his shares in Tesla, the billionaire’s biggest sale on record, saying he needed cash in case he is forced to go ahead with his aborted deal to buy Twitter. “In the (hopefully unlikely) event that Twitter forces this deal to close *and* some equity partners don’t come through, it is important to avoid an emergency sale of Tesla stock,” Musk tweeted after the filings. Asked by followers if he was done selling, Musk responded: “Yes.” He said he would buy shares again if the $44 billion deal to buy the social media giant doesn’t happen. India is likely to be the fastest-growing Asian economy in the Asian region in 2022-23, according to analysts at Morgan Stanley, who expect the India’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth to average 7 per cent during this period – the strongest among the largest economies – and contributing 28 per cent and 22 per cent to Asian and global growth, respectively. The Indian economy, they said, is set for its best run in over a decade, as pent-up demand is being unleashed. #india #gdp #indianeconomy #asia #asianeconomy #growth #economicgrowth
