Why would someone want my EIN?
Hi, first year in biz here… Doing basic landscaping work for a client who manages a small commercial building. I haven’t met him, in communication he seems completely normal. He did pay 1/2 up front since we haven’t met in person. He emailed me this morning asking if I have “An EIN for 1099 reporting purposes” that I can share. I’m just not privy to tax stuff just yet and don’t know if this could be something I want to refrain from giving away. Isn’t my EIN considered non-confidential? Please help translate his intentions for me… thank you!

How to estimate
Ended up starting a small handyman/construction side gig not too long after leaving TR. So for those in the trades, my question is how do you estimate jobs? I know a lot of it has to do with experience and whatnot but when it comes down to basic math I know it’s usually just T&M, but is there another percentage that you charge on top for the project ex. Project is $400 but an additional 25% bringing it to $500 to cover other things like planning other costs. Thanks in advance

How to come up with compensation offer for contractors turning into w-2 employees?
Our LLC currently has contractors working for us that we pay about $40/hour. We haven't had any w-2 employees before but we are looking to bring on some of our contractors as employees with benefits and more flexibility. As far as compensation goes, would it make sense to offer w-2 employment at a lower rate? It will cost more for the company to hire them as employees but will they expect to be offered a rate that is the same as what they were paid as contractors? I don't want to demoralize anyone by offering a much lower rate - I would like to extend an offer that is fair and comparable to what they were making before. I know there are a lot of factors to consider here and I haven't provided a lot of info, but I would appreciate hearing everyone's thoughts or advice on coming up with a compensation plan. Thank you!

Question regarding owner funds and owner payback
Hello, I’ve got a small business that recently I’ve sold equity in. The funds from sale of equity are due to come within the next 10 days but have an immediate need for cash now for a large capital expense. My question is, if I fund my business say 20k for the large expense, could I pay myself the 20k back at when the funds from equity sale hit? Will that be taxable?

Market research
Do I really need to do surveys for customer validation on a product that other companies have already proved out? It’s a giant, winners take all market. Very hot. It’s pretty obvious businesses want it. I don’t get the point of wasting my time calling businesses, asking if this is worth it to them.

Options for offering benefits to shift workers
Hi all, TX-based small business with <50 employees. Mostly shift/1099 workers. I'm researching approaches to offering benefits such as health savings (or insurance) and disability/life insurance. Does anybody have any experience with offering this to both W-2 and 1099 employees? Most options I've seen are either very expensive, require many W-2 employees, or both. Related: Have those of you who have done this seen an improvement in your ability to attract and retain workers? Thanks.
