Meet first generation American Xicana artist, family historian, and anti-racist educator, Michelle Franzoni Thorley of florafamiliar. I discovered her work at a Dia de los Muertos festival and bought a few of her prints. I was attracted to how she wove her visual story with the story of her ancestors. And it's the story she continues to tell through her important work. Today we interviewed her as a part of our Becoming series and I was struck with the similarities she shares with one of my favorite artists, Frida Kahlo, from the physical accident that brought on chronic pain to getting creative in how and where she paints to her mixed Mexican and European heritage (her family lived very close to Casa Azul!). There are so many points of inspiration in her story and I encourage you all to read it and give her a follow! #larsartistinterviews #xicana
