My first time making abrasive-finish planters!
Hi all! I really like the gritty finish of abrasive glaze planters, so I set out to see if I could do it myself! I used some very ugly sealed/ poorly painted terra cotta pots. For the first (green) one, I put down a base layer of green acrylic paint, then mixed some coarse sand into a bowl of the same paint. I laid it on with a palette knife, but it was hard to make it stick because my sand had little gravels in it. I had to go several coats, letting them dry in between. I followed the same steps for the others, but used fine, blue colored sand for the pink and purple. The fine sand was easier to work with and easier to mix (50/50 ratio). Still, I like the crazy chunky green one the best! After letting them dry for a couple days, I put on three layers of clear coat. Now they’re ready for plants!
