Saint-Blaise's Cultural and Sports Center is located in a high-density area built around the '70s-'80s. Diagram (in four parts) by Sarah Shi sarahyueshi and Wan-Hsuan Kung a.kung1028 completed for the "Formal/Informal: Migrating Climates in the Immigrant City" Advanced Architecture Studio 6 led by Phu Hoang moduarchitecture. ⁣ ⁣ The studio engages with immigrant communities to understand their everyday appropriations and adaptations to formal systems. Nearly half of the residents of Queens are foreign-born. Students learn from those who have migrated to the US, living in communities predominantly from Latin America, Asia, and the Caribbean. Studio sites are selected from the Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, and Corona neighborhoods. The design methodology includes case study research of non-Western architecture, urbanism, and visual forms of representation. The ambition is to design architecture or infrastructure that supports the front-line communities most at risk from the global health crisis, racial inequality, and the climate crisis. ⁣ ⁣ #ColumbiaGSAPP #architecture #gsappadvancedstudio6
