At Kew, weβre growing some very unusual types of banana like the Musa velutina, commonly known as the pink banana, which could be the key to protecting their delicious yellow cousins. https://t.co/r05Y55DHHv

Although it resembles its Asian cousin, the False banana (Ensete ventricosum) is not grown for the curved yellow fruit. In southern Ethiopia, where it feeds an estimated 20 million people, it's the vegetative parts of this plant that make it so valuable: https://t.co/Yf0QxUktZ5 https://t.co/4np1EBUy7D

Humans have bred bananas to be farmed, so they can no longer reproduce on their own. This means each banana plant is genetically identical to the previous generation and disease can easily wipe out the crop as there's very little resistance: https://t.co/UafUHACU4q π https://t.co/Eyp9nm232o

The field is almost done & I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Itβs the time of the year where itβs a huge push to get everything in the ground which means behind the scenes itβs lots of frozen dinners, dirt stained hands, mounds of clean & dirty laundry, sore backs & a reward of evening walks around the farm soaking in all the feels of working hard & seeing the vision all coming together. Those evening walks as a family are my favorite part of the day, seeing everything starting to catch & the farm really coming to life. It doesnβt look like much now but soon this field will be bursting with beauty & I canβt wait! π #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #thefarmhouseflowerfarm
