There are only two seatings of 24 diners per night at herplacesupperclub in Philly, one of the best new restaurants in America. Seats at chef Amanda Shulman’s dinner party-style restaurant can be hard to come by, but the meal is completely, unquestionably worth the trouble. These are scenes from a late-summer dinner, where starters on the always-changing menu included tomato toast, melon with pepper vinaigrette, and roast beef with fries and green-pepper mayo (wrap the fries in the beef and dip, chef Amanda instructed diners). There was caramelle pasta filled with sweet corn purée and dusted with black truffle, a bouillabaisse with butter-bathed seafood, and the restaurant’s signature layered eggplant parm.
