You won’t find any winter sports being played in today’s Exhibit of the Day, but you will spot some medal-worthy trees. The Olympic Rain Forest Diorama in the Hall of North American Forests depicts a scene from Olympic National Park, which is dominated by magnificent, closely spaced evergreen coniferous trees such as Douglas fir and western red cedar. Massive trees can attain heights of 200 to 300 feet (61 to 91 meters), diameters of 10 feet (3 meters), and ages of 600+ years! The area is home to a diverse range of animals, too: chipmunks, bears, deer, birds, and, along the coast of the forest, whales. Have you ever been to Olympic National Park?🌲 Photo: © AMNH
