David McCullough, best-selling and award-winning author, has died at the age of 89. The iconic American history author received numerous awards including two Pulitzer Prizes and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006. “We need to be reminded of the contributions, the ideas, the examples established by those who went before us. We’re all a result of many others who helped taught, inspired, people who have been rivals and people have been comrades.”

If a detail in a food's packaging doesn't seem to serve a practical purpose, it's likely a marketing tactic. Read more at the link in our bio. #accessibility text: First slide: Graphics show a red mesh bag with oranges inside and an orange peeking above text that reads: Why are oranges sold in red mesh bags? Second slide: Text reads: It’s a marketing tactic. The color orange "pops" when paired with the color red more so than it does with yellow, green, or blue. That means when you see a bunch of oranges behind a red net pattern, your brain assumes they're more "orange" (and therefore fresher and higher quality) than it would if you saw them on their own.

The planet Venus has been called "Earth's evil twin." It spins "backwards" compared to most planets in our solar system, it's hot enough melt lead, and yet it's the destination for two upcoming NASA missions.

The longest domestic cat living measures 120 cm (3 ft 11.2 in). Barivel from Vigevano in Pavia, Italy, was confirmed as a new record holder in 2018. Barivel is a Maine Coon who, despite his size, is a very quiet and shy cat. He has his own Instagram profile - barivel_maine_coon - and receives many comments asking about his size. His favourite dishes include fish (especially tuna) and chicken. "He is a very special cat for us because he is a little shy... when people see him they are very shocked, but for us he is a little gift... a big gift!" says owner Edgar Scandurra. Fun fact: In his owners’ local Italian dialect, Barivel means clown or joker. #cat #pets #mainecoon #catday #internationalcatday #guinnessworldrecords #officiallyamazing

Vacation ends when you unpack your bags, right? Not quite, says travel writer Pico Iyer. Turns out that simply going on the trip is just the beginning. According to Iyer, if you really want your travels — near and far — to change your life, you need to focus on what happens after you get home. (And no, we’re not talking about unpacking your suitcase!) His recommendation? Once you’ve reached home sweet home, reflect back on your recent trip and ask yourself what moved you or surprised you. In doing so, you might just uncover a new way to view your every day! “It’s only when you get back home that you can really begin to understand a trip and implement the changes it may have set into motion inside you,” says Iyer. Have you taken a journey that continues to enrich your life to this day? Let us know where you went and how it changed your perspective in the comments below. 👇 #MondayMotivation
