The eight-year-old German Shepherd, named Wangwang, worked as a sniffer dog at security checkpoints in Xichuan county in Henan province, central China. According to the Daily Star, she was adopted after retiring in June 2019, which meant Wangwang found a new home. The UK's Labour MP for Rotherham, Sarah Champion, wants the DVLA and the passport office to mark the files of people who are registered sex offenders, as she hopes this will close a loophole where paedophiles change their names so that crimes don't show up during checks when they apply to work with children and vulnerable adults. Logging sex offenders' passports or driving licenses would mean the 'danger alert' would get flagged each time someone changed their name. Ms Champion explained: “They are slipping under the radar with devastating consequences. If the name-change process was joined up it would stop the sex offender from successfully receiving a DBS check.” Sex offenders face five years in jail if they do not inform police of name changes but they're rarely caught, according to the Daily Mirror, who report that over the last five years 16,000 offenders have breached notification requirements and at least 900 have gone missing.
